Genomic alterations in the interspecific hybrid Helianthus annuus×Helianthus tuberosus
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1998The genome of a Helianthus annuus (2n=34) ×Helianthus tuberosus (2n=102) hybrid was studied at cytological, biochemical and molecular levels and compared to those of the parental species. Cytophotometric analyses showed that the hybrid has a 4C DNA content higher than expected and with a larger variability than in the parents.

Furanoheliangolides from helianthus schweinitzii
Phytochemistry, 1984Abstract The two furanoheliangolides budlein A and a new compound, ° 4,15 -isoatripliciolide tiglate, were isolated from the hexaploid sunflower Helianthus schweinitzii . Budlein A has been previously isolated from H. angustifolius , a diploid species suggested as a possible progenitor of H. schweinitzii .

Identification of MicroRNAs and their targets in Helianthus
Molecular Biology Reports, 2011MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs about 20-24 nucleotides long, playing regulatory role. The conserved nature among the various organisms makes them a good source of new miRNAs discovery by comparative genomics approach using bioinformatic tools. A systematic search approach was used for inter-species homologs of miRNA precursors (pre-miRNAs)

Three diploid perennial sunflower species are useful for variety improvement: Helianthus mollis, because of sessile leaves, H. salicifolius, because of a high oil concentration, and H. maximiliani, a potential source of resistance to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The crossability of these species to cultivated sunflower was examined.

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)
2014Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is still considered as a recalcitrant species to in vitro culture and transformation in spite of the publication of different protocols. Here we describe a routine transformation system of this crop which requires mature HA89 genotype seeds and Agrobacterium tumefaciens EHA105 strain for gene delivery, being both easily
