Two-Dimensional Discrete Model for Buckling of Helical Springs
Abstract The classical theory of helical spring instability is based on the buckling of an equivalent column. Alternatively, more advanced methods are found in literature, involving the numerical solution of the displacement field of the helical wire.

Probing the Elastic Properties of Alpha Helices via Buckling Simulations [PDF]
Alpha helices are ubiquitous structural motifs in proteins. Moreover, their reaction to mechanical stresses is key to understanding SNARE-mediated bilayer fusion and other fundamental biological processes. Previous investigations of alpha-helical rigidity have assumed the alpha helix to be an Euler rod.

Magneto‐X Effects in Magnetic Soft Materials and Their Applications
This review systematically explores magnetic soft materials (MSMs), a novel class of composites that transform under magnetic fields. It catalogs fundamental “Magneto‐X” effects, classifies materials by their matrix and magnetic fillers, and highlights transformative applications in soft robotics, biomedical devices, flexible electronics, etc. Finally,

Morphoelastic rods Part 1: A single growing elastic rod [PDF]
A theory for the dynamics and statics of growing elastic rods is presented. First, a single growing rod is considered and the formalism of three-dimensional multiplicative decomposition of morphoelasticity is used to describe the bulk growth of Kirchhoff

A Janus‐like bio‐inspired strategy is proposed for integrally 3D‐printed bimetallic metamaterials. Inspired by shell bilayers, a heat‐resistant AlSiFeMnNiMg alloy and a SiC‐reinforced AlSi10Mg with different SiC volume fractions are arranged as an architected pair.

Buckling of Carbon Nanotubes: A State of the Art Review
The nonlinear mechanical response of carbon nanotubes, referred to as their "buckling" behavior, is a major topic in the nanotube research community. Buckling means a deformation process in which a large strain beyond a threshold causes an abrupt change ...

Active Metamaterials with Tunable Shear Nonreciprocity and Nonlinear Dynamics
Active gear‐based mechanical metamaterials enable simultaneous control of translational and torsional stiffnesses by 30–100×, break shear reciprocity under positive versus negative loads, broadly tune resonant frequencies, and offer programmable dynamic responses.
