Physical modelling of helical pile anchors
Helical piles design is based usually on empirical correlations between the uplift capacity and the torque resistance of the pile during installation. A simplified theoretical relationship to predict the uplift capacity of deep helical piles in sand from the installation torque was reported.

Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment, 2021
In recent years, the use of helical piles as a deep foundation option for structures has increased dramatically because they offer definite advantages over other solutions. The present study undertook a comprehensive investigation of the axial compressive behavior of helical piles in both sandy and clayey types of soil using finite element (FE ...

Cyclic load behavior of helical pile-to-pile cap connections subjected to uplift loads
Engineering Structures, 2021Abstract Although significant research has been conducted on helical piles, there is a lack of research and official design guidelines on how to create resilient helical pile-to-pile cap connections, especially in tall and light structures where tensile uplift loads may govern the foundation design.

Large-diameter helical pile capacity – torque correlations
Large diameter helical piles are utilized increasingly to support heavy structures. Both the magnitude of the required installation torque and the pile capacity can be directly attributed to the soil shearing resistance developed over the embedded area ...

Helical Piles as a Novel Foundation System for Offshore Piled Facilities
Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference, 2015Abstract Driven piles are used to support the majority of offshore oil and gas structures with jacket structures supported by axially loaded piles still remaining the most common form of fixed offshore platform. Piles for conventional platforms are normally driven open-ended steel piles.

Performance of Helical Piles with Grouted Shafts
New Technological and Design Developments in Deep Foundations, 2000A new foundation system employing in-situ grouting of helical screw piles has recently been developed. As the anchor is installed into the soil, a column of grout is "pulled down" around the anchor shaft providing an in-situ grouted shaft. This foundation system has been successfully employed at several sites with very soft soils overlying a more ...

The occurrence of residual stresses in helical piles
2015Residual stresses generated during the pile installation are usually observed and considered in the interpretation of conventional pile load tests. However, in the case of helical piles, residual stresses can be generated by previous loadings. At the end of the unloading stage in tension tests, the shaft resistance is reversed, and the helices are ...

Lateral Capacity of Helical Piles in Clays
Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1996In this paper, the behavior of helical piles under lateral loads in clayey soils is examined through an experimental investigation on model piles. Tests were conducted on rigid helical piles with different numbers of plates. Model anchors were made of 13.8 mm diameter mild steel shafts to which mild steel plates of 33 mm diameter were welded.
