The Evolution of Helium-Rich Subdwarf-B Stars [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 2004
Helium-rich subdwarf-B (He-sdB) stars are extremely rare hot subluminous stars found in the field of our Galaxy as well as in some globular clusters. The existence of these hot helium stars cannot be explained by canonical stellar evolution theories nor can it be explained by normal sdB evolution.

The Quasar 0805+046 as a Helium-Rich Shell Star [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysics and Space Science, 1985
Within the framework of the plasma-laser star model of quasars it is proposed that the quasar 0805+046 is a helium-rich shell star. (a) The strong emission line at 4712 A is identified with Hei λ4713. (b) The discontinuity in the continuous energy distribution at λ3420 is identified with the helium discontinuity at λ3422.

Helium rich stars produce the UV upturn

Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union, 2019
AbstractWe measure the evolution of the UV upturn color for galaxies on the red sequence in clusters at 0 < z < 0.7 and to luminosity levels L ∼ L*. We show that the UV upturn color does not change until at least z = 0.55 but becomes significantly redder at z = 0.7. This is the first detection of evolution in the UV upturn.
