Observation of Exploding Electron Bubbles in Liquid Helium

When an electron enters liquid helium, it experiences a repulsive potential V0 of approximately 1 eV [1]. As a consequence it is energetically favorable for the electron to become localized within a spherical volume from which the helium is nearly completely excluded [2].

Nucleation of bubbles in liquid helium at negative pressure

We consider the rate at which bubbles form when a negative pressure is applied to liquid $^{4}\mathrm{He}$. We show that at a critical pressure ${\mathrm{P}}_{\mathrm{c}}$ of about -9 bars, the liquid becomes macroscopically unstable and the barrier against nucleation of bubbles becomes zero.

Numerical study of helium solubility and helium bubble stability in mercury

Abstract Dispersing small helium bubbles in the liquid mercury target of the high-power spallation neutron sources was proposed to add compressibility to the target made of liquid mercury. The pressure rise from proton beam deposition is reduced due to added compressibility, which in turn mitigates cavitation damage to the target boundary.
