Cooper pairing and superconductivity on a spherical surface

open access: yes, 2005
Electrons in a multielectron bubble in helium form a spherical, two-dimensional system coupled to the ripplons at the bubble surface. The electron-ripplon coupling, known to lead to polaronic effects, is shown to give rise also to Cooper pairing.

The Vela pulsar `jet': a companion-punctured bubble of fallback material [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Markwardt and Oegelman (1995) used ROSAT to reveal a 12 by 45 arcmin structure in 1 keV X rays around the Vela pulsar, which they interpret as a jet emanating from the pulsar. We here present an alternative view of the nature of this feature, namely that

Effects of Fe concentration on helium bubble formation in NiFex single-phase concentrated solid solution alloys

open access: yesMaterialia, 2019
The formation of helium bubbles and the consequential property degradation are critical challenges for materials used in advanced nuclear energy systems.

Large‐Area 2D Metasurface‐Based Triboelectric E‐Skin Arrays: Contact & Proximity Tactile Mapping with Broadband Acoustic Readouts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metasurface‐engineered NC‐TENG arrays integrate tactile pressure mapping, non‐contact gesture sensing, and acoustic signal readouts in one ultrathin module, and outperforms pristine PDMS in terms of electrical output and real‐time spatial mapping for next‐gen wearables.

Rb*He_n exciplexes in solid 4_He [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We report the observation of emission spectra from Rb*He_n exciplexes in solid 4He. Two different excitation channels were experimentally identified, viz., exciplex formation via laser excitation to the atomic 5P3/2 and to the 5P1/2 levels.

In Situ X‐Ray Tomography and Acoustic Emission Monitoring of Damage Evolution in C/C‐SiC Composites Fabricated by Liquid Silicon Infiltration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates how the internal structure of fiber‐reinforced ceramic composites affects their resistance to damage. By combining 3D X‐ray imaging with acoustic emission monitoring during mechanical testing, it reveals how silicon distribution influences crack formation.

Near-surface fragmentation in irradiated copper under two successive shock loading: effects of local temperature re-distribution and helium bubble expansion

open access: yesMaterials & Design
The underlying physical mechanisms of metal materials associated with the effects of helium bubbles on surface damage under complex shock loading remain mysterious, primarily due to the challenges of observing dynamic evolution in situ and in real time ...

The effect of pressure on statics, dynamics and stability of multielectron bubbles

open access: yes, 2001
The effect of pressure and negative pressure on the modes of oscillation of a multi-electron bubble in liquid helium is calculated. Already at low pressures of the order of 10-100 mbar, these effects are found to significantly modify the frequencies of ...

Atomic Tuning of Metal‐Support Interactions for Pathway‐Selective CO2 Photoreduction on TiO2

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐atom Fe and Cu catalysts anchored on TiO2 steer photocatalytic CO2 reduction toward distinct pathways. Fe sites favor rapid *CO desorption and selective CO formation, whereas Cu sites stabilize *CHO intermediates, enabling deep reduction and C─C coupling. Combined spectroscopy and DFT calculations reveal how metal–support interactions and oxygen

Grain orientation and temperature dependences of bubbles at tungsten surfaces upon helium plasma exposure

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy
The impact of grain orientation and surface temperature on helium bubble growth at tungsten surfaces exposed to low-pressure helium plasmas was investigated by analyzing the nanoholes formed at the surface.
