Representation of solutions to Helmholtz’s equation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 1984
It is proved that any potential of a single layer v is identically equal to a potential of a double layer w in the bounded domain, 𝒟, and a necessary and sufficient condition for v≡w in Ω=R3/𝒟, the exterior domain, is given.

A nonlocal fractional Helmholtz equation [PDF]

open access: yesFractional Differential Calculus, 2017
In this paper we study some boundary value problems for a fractional analogue of second order elliptic equation with an involution perturbation in a rectangular domain. Theorems on existence and uniqueness of a solution of the considered problems are proved by spectral method.

MAGTWIST: A Magnetically‐Driven Rotary Actuator Using a Traveling‐Wave With Integrated Stiffness Tunability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MAGTWIST: A compact magnetic rotary actuator, enabling smooth, stepless rotation, and on‐demand locking. Inspired by peristalsis, a soft polymer belt generates a traveling‐wave, enabling 270° rotation when heated. Cooling stiffens the belt, locking it in position and enabling it to withstand high loads.

Helmholtz Resonance in Korean Bells

open access: yesInternational Scholastic Journal of Science, 2017
Traditional Korean bells are installed above a shallow well with a gap between the bell and the ground, effectively creating a Helmholtz resonator. During installation, the size of the well and the gap is traditionally adjusted, through trial and error ...

Critical equation of state of randomly dilute Ising systems

open access: yes, 2003
We determine the critical equation of state of three-dimensional randomly dilute Ising systems, i.e. of the random-exchange Ising universality class. We first consider the small-magnetization expansion of the Helmholtz free energy in the high-temperature

Two reconstruction procedures for a 3D phaseless inverse scattering problem for the generalized Helmholtz equation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The 3D inverse scattering problem of the reconstruction of the unknown dielectric permittivity in the generalized Helmholtz equation is considered. Applications are in imaging of nanostructures and biological cells.

Novel Functional Materials via 3D Printing by Vat Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective systematically analyzes strategies for incorporating functionalities into 3D‐printed materials via Vat Photopolymerization (VP). It explores the spectrum of achievable functionalities in recently reported novel materials—such as conductive, energy‐storing, biodegradable, stimuli‐responsive, self‐healing, shape‐memory, biomaterials, and

Interfacial and Crystallographic Regulation of Zinc Anode via Electric Double Layer Reconstruction for Highly Stable Zn Anode

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Trace amounts of perfluoro‐1‐butanesulfonyl fluoride enables the regulation of the Zn/electrolyte interface by the generated zincophilic ─SO3H groups with long hydrophobic ─CF2 tails, which adsorb strongly onto the Zn surface, displace water molecules from the inner Helmholtz plane, and reconstruct the electrical double‐layer structure.

Fast algorithms for Quadrature by Expansion I: Globally valid expansions

open access: yes, 2017
The use of integral equation methods for the efficient numerical solution of PDE boundary value problems requires two main tools: quadrature rules for the evaluation of layer potential integral operators with singular kernels, and fast algorithms for ...
