Microarrays are fast becoming routine tools for the high-throughput analysis of gene expression in a wide range of biologic systems, including hematology. Although a number of approaches can be taken when implementing microarray-based studies, all are capable of providing important insights into biologic function.

ABSTRACT: A comprehensive hematologic study was made on 400 geriatric subjects (200 males and 200 females) in a nursing home. All the subjects were ambulatory and were considered to represent a relatively “normal” group for the 70–80 and 81–94 age brackets.

Abstract. A distinction is made between postinfection thrombocytopenia of childhood and idiopathic thrombocytopenia (ITP) of adulthood. Relative advantages of treatment modalities, including splenectomy, are weighed, with an emphasis on the administration of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) as an emergency measure in the adult patient with ITP ...

Using laboratory animal medicine as an established resource, companion animal veterinarians have access to many physiologic and basic science studies that we can now merge with our clinical impressions. By working with reference laboratories, companion animal veterinarians are poised to accelerate our knowledge of the normal rabbit rapidly.
