Hematoporphyrin derivatives: An oligomeric composition study
Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 1990The oligomeric composition of HpD, Photofrin II and other hematoporphyrin derivatives useful for the diagnosis and therapy of tumors has been studied. Gel chromatographic procedures were used that excluded porphyrin aggregation. Photofrin and hematoporphyrin derivatives were shown to contain different quantities of monomer, dimer and other oligomeric ...

HEMATOPORPHYRIN‐SENSITIZED PHOTOINACTIVATION OF Streptococcus faecalis
Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1984Abstract— The photosensitizing action of hematoporphyrin (HP) on the cells of some bacterial strains belonging to the species Streptococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae, as well as of strains of yeast Candida albicans, was studied in air‐equilibrated aqueous media at pH 7.2.

Membrane photosensitization by hematoporphyrin and hematoporphyrin derivative.
Progress in clinical and biological research, 1985HPD-A, the putative active biologic component of HPD, photosensitized lysis of large phosphatidylcholine liposomes and lipid peroxidation in small liposomes with oxygen enhancement ratios from 4 to 5. Unambiguous proof was obtained that this damage was mediated by singlet oxygen.

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2005
AbstractAn investigation of the basic factors which govern the microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) and micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) separation of Hematoporphyrin D and its base hydrolysis product, hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD), was performed.

A Fluorescence Study of Hematoporphyrin
Applied Spectroscopy, 1973The fluorescence characteristics of hematoporphyrin have been studied at 26°C as a function of concentration and pH. The pk values are 4.7 and 8.2 as determined in water and water-ethanol mixtures. The fluorescence spectrum consists of a peak at 625 nm and a second, less intense band at 675 nm.

The influence of the polarity of the medium on the efficiency of Type I and Type II photosensitization as carried out by hematoporphyrin and its derivative Photofrin II was studied by EPR techniques. Our results suggest that porphyrin aggregates do not participate as such in the photosensitized processes.

HEMATOPORPHYRIN AS A PHOTOSENSITIZER OF TUMORS*
Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1983Abstract— The ability of hematoporphyrin (Hp) to act as a photosensitizer of cells in vitro or in vivo is a matter of dispute, while hematoporphyrin derivative (Hpd), a mixture of porphyrins including hematoporphyrin, has been consistently found to be an effective photosensitizer both in vitro and in vivo. Until recently the actual component of the Hpd

Hematoporphyrin Photomedicine of Cancer
1987The concentration of porphyrins by malignant tissue has been known for decades and has been thoroughly reviewed in several recent symposium volumes.1–3 From these symposia as well as the many articles published in refereed journals, a picture emerges that is both positive and negative.
