Zinc hematoporphyrin in preparations of hematoporphyrin and hematoporphyrin derivative

Chemical Physics Letters, 1984
Abstract The blue-shifted emission from aged aqueous solutions of hematoporphyrin and its derivatives, reported by others to originate from special aggregates, is shown to originate from the zinc chelates of the porphyrins. Suggestions are made regarding the role of such zinc porphyrins in the localization of hematoporphyrin and its derivatives in ...

Light-induced transformations of hematoporphyrin diacetate and hematoporphyrin

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 1988
Illumination of hematoporphyrin diacetate (HP-Diac) and hematoporphyrin (HP) in phosphate-buffered solutions causes the formation of a stable photoproduct absorbing at 636 nm. Simultaneously the photo-oxidation of HP-Diac and HP takes place. These phototransformations depend on the illumination dose and the concentration of the HP-Diac or HP solution ...

Fluorescence spectra of hematoporphyrin and hematoporphyrin-diacetate aggregates in buffer solution

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 1989
Different fluorescence spectra are observed on preferential excitation of monomer and aggregate species of hematoporphyrin and hematoporphyrin-diacetate, respectively. From these measurements we obtain the fluorescence spectrum of aggregate species in buffer solution, which shows two maxima, at 628 nm and around 700 nm.

The effect of hematoporphyrin and light on human platelets. II. Uptake of hematoporphyrin

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1966
AbstractA linear relationship was demonstrated between the reciprocals of the concentration of free hematoporphyrin and the moles of hematoporphyrin taken up by the platelet in the dark. radiated platelets took up more hematoporphyrin than did controls; this increase in uptake was accounted for by the movement of the dye across the damaged membrane of ...

Photophysics and Photochemistry of Hematoporphyrin, Hematoporphyrin Derivative and Uroporphyrin I

1985
The putative action mechanism in photodynamic therapy (PDT) involves serum transport of HPD to tumor tissue, localization and retention of the active constituent, generation of singlet molecular oxygen (Δ) by the action of visible light and the attack of t on the cellular targets.

Hematoporphyrin and hematoporphyrin-derivative photosensitization of mitochondria

Biochimie, 1986
Laser micro-irradiation experiments show that mitochondria are profoundly affected when cells are irradiated with Hp as the photosensitizer. Functional as well as enzymatic studies on isolated mitochondria show that coupling between respiration and oxidative phosphorylation, Ca2+ transport and respiration are successively lost under irradiation in the ...

The Analysis of Hematoporphyrin Derivative

1983
When work on photoradiation therapy (PRT) commenced in Adelaide, the stringency of Australian Federal drug regulations made it preferable for us to prepare HPD rather than import the product. It was therefore important that we have an acceptable assay for both HPD solid and HPD clinical1, thereby enabling comparisons between our material and the ...
