Tumor Fluorescence with Hematoporphyrin Derivative

Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1977
Hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD) is one of several photodynamically active dyes that accumulate in tumor cells and can be used to differentiate neoplastic from normal tissue by violet light activation. Degree of tumor fluorescence was studied in relation to the nature of the hematoporphyrin compound, dose of HpD injected, route of injection, and ...

A Study on Spectral Characteristics of Hematoporphyrin Monomethylether and Hematoporphyrin in Different Solvents

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
With the application of 405nm semiconductor laser as a light source, this paper presents the fluorescent characteristics of Hematoporphyrin monomethylether and Hematoporphyrin in the following five solvents: Dimethyl sulfoxide, Dimethylformamide, Tetrahydrofuran, Ethyl acetate and Deionized water.

Studies on the interaction of hematoporphyrin with hemoglobin

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 1997
Spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric studies reveal that an interaction occurs between hemoglobin and hematoporphyrin, a photosensitizing drug used in photodynamic therapy. Two concentration ranges of hematoporphyrin, 0.4-0.9 microM and 1.8-3.6 microM, representing significantly monomeric and aggregated (dimeric) state, respectively, have been ...

HEMATOPORPHYRIN AS A PHOTOSENSITIZER OF TUMORS*

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1983
Abstract— The ability of hematoporphyrin (Hp) to act as a photosensitizer of cells in vitro or in vivo is a matter of dispute, while hematoporphyrin derivative (Hpd), a mixture of porphyrins including hematoporphyrin, has been consistently found to be an effective photosensitizer both in vitro and in vivo. Until recently the actual component of the Hpd

The photodynamic modification of DNA by hematoporphyrin

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1977
Illumination (white light: 300-750 nm) of DNA in the presence of hematoporphyrin (less than or equal to 5-10 (-4) M) results in selective degradation of the guanine moiety. DNA so illuminated exhibits physical chemical properties (lowered sedimentation coefficients, lower temperatures of helix-coil transitions, increased buoyant density values ...

Influence of medium polarity on the photosensitizing properties of hematoporphyrin and hematoporphyrin derivative (Photofrin II)

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 1988
The influence of the polarity of the medium on the efficiency of Type I and Type II photosensitization as carried out by hematoporphyrin and its derivative Photofrin II was studied by EPR techniques. Our results suggest that porphyrin aggregates do not participate as such in the photosensitized processes.

PURIFICATION and ANALYSIS OF HEMATOPORPHYRIN and HEMATOPORPHYRIN DERIVATIVE BY GEL EXCLUSION and REVERSE‐PHASE CHROMATOGRAPHY*

Photochemistry and Photobiology, 1987
AbstractA ternary‐solvent HPLC method for analysis of the components of the tumor‐localizing product HPD is described. This HPLC system was used to assess the utility of a new method, based on gel exclusion chromatography, for purification of hematoporphyrin.

Microemulsion and micellar electrokinetic chromatography of Hematoporphyrin D: A starting material of hematoporphyrin derivative

ELECTROPHORESIS, 2005
AbstractAn investigation of the basic factors which govern the microemulsion electrokinetic chromatography (MEEKC) and micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) separation of Hematoporphyrin D and its base hydrolysis product, hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD), was performed.

Hematoporphyrin and isohematoporphyrin ethers

International Journal of Biochemistry, 1992
Abstract 1. 1. The finding that the action catalysed by HClO4 of the alkylating reagent triethylorthoformate upon isohematoporphyrin and hematoporphyrin results in mono-etherification has been considered in relation to the structure of the porphyrin molecule since simple aromatic phenols such as catechol and saligenin react as expected to yield ...

Hematoporphyrin Derivative Photoradiation Therapy

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1984
To the Editor. —I read with interest the article in the JulyArchivesregarding hematoporphyrin derivatives in photoradiation therapy. 1 I found a number of references to this subject appearing in the literature. When I introduced porphyrins to clinical medicine in 1955, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, 2 I originally used it as a surgical tool.
