HEMIPARASITIC NUTRITION IN ANGIOSPERMS [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 1968
SummaryThe structure of the root haustorium and the hairs of the shoot of Odontites has been examined by light microscopy. The haustorium provides a direct xylem‐xylem link between root of host and hemiparasite. Tracer studies show that solutes move across this pathway from the host to the shoot of the hemiparasite.Three types of hair clothe the shoot.

Interactive effects of mycorrhizae and a root hemiparasite on plant community productivity and diversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Plant communities can be affected both by arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and hemiparasitic plants. However, little is known about the interactive effects of these two biotic factors on the productivity and diversity of plant communities.

HEMIPARASITIC NUTRITION IN ANGIOSPERMS [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 1967
SummaryPlants of the hemiparasite Odontites verna (red bartsia) benefited markedly through association with barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) or white clover (Trifolium repens L.). Benefit commenced after the establishment of haustorial connections on the roots of a host.Compounds containing labelled carbon moved through haustoria into the hemiparasite ...

Becoming Entangled: Queer Attachments with Hemiparasites

open access: yesPerformance Philosophy, 2021
What is that queer plant that drapes itself chaotically over the top of trees and bushes? You know the one along the road on the way into town? Ah yes! You mean the one with no leaves, that looks like tangled yarn caught up in the branches?  Yes, it looks like its floating airborne on top of the canopy, smothering and embracing at the same time ...

Advances on the Visualization of the Internal Structures of the European Mistletoe: 3D Reconstruction Using Microtomography

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
The European mistletoe (Viscum album) is a dioecious epiphytic evergreen hemiparasite that develops an extensive endophyte enabling the absorption of water and mineral salts from the host tree, whereas the exophytic leaves are photosynthetically active ...
