The Complete Chloroplast Genome of Euphrasia regelii, Pseudogenization of ndh Genes and the Phylogenetic Relationships Within Orobanchaceae

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2019
Euphrasia (Orobanchaceae) is a genus which is widely distributed in temperate regions of the southern and northern hemisphere. The taxonomy of Euphrasia is still controversial due to the similarity of morphological characters and a lack of genomic ...

Anatomy of the roots of some northern hemiparasites (Orobanchaceae)

open access: yesTurczaninowia, 2017
The root structure and the haustorial formation of 5 northern hemiparasites: Bartsia alpina, Castilleja lapponica, Pedicularis lapponica, Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum, Rhinanthus minor subsp. groenlandicus (Orobanchaceae) have been studied. The autotroph Scrophularia nodosa (Scrophulariaceae) has been chosen as a control.

The changes of morphological and physiological characteristics in hemiparasitic Monochasma savatieri before and after attachment to the host plant [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2020
Background Monochasma savatieri is an endangered hemiparasitic medicinal plant with a variety of antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Despite the urgent need to understand the parasitic biology of M.

No need to seed: restoring species‐rich grassland on former arable fields by natural regeneration

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Over the last century, agricultural intensification has caused substantial losses of semi‐natural species‐rich grasslands. One means of restoring grassland habitat is to abandon farmed land, followed by mowing and/or grazing of the established vegetation to facilitate meadow diversification. Objectives This study investigated post‐

Hemiparasitic interaction between Castilleja tenuiflora (Orobanchaceae) and Baccharis conferta (Asteraceae): haustorium anatomy and C- and N-fluxes

open access: yesBotan‪ical Sciences, 2019
Background: Castilleja tenuiflora is a hemiparasite of Baccharis conferta. The haustorium is the characteristic structure of hemiparasitic plants and its anatomy varies depending several factors such as host species, position on the root and environment.

Parasitism modifies the direct effects of warming on a hemiparasite and its host - Fig 2

open access: yes, 2019
Mean number of haustoria (± SE) by temperature treatment for (A) all hemiparasite plants grown with a host plant (ambient: n = 59, warmed: n = 54) and (B) only those hemiparasite plants that produced at least one haustorium when grown with a host plant ...

Fertile Soils Increase Susceptibility of Pinus sylvestris to Cronartium pini

open access: yesForest Pathology, Volume 56, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Cronartium pini, Scots pine blister rust, is a rust fungus that has caused severe damage in both old and young Scots pine (P. sylvestris) forest stands in northern Fennoscandia. To understand the many drivers of these outbreaks we examined putative factors and their explanatory power of C.

Dodder seedlings benefit from apoplastic nutrition by inducing SWEET15‐mediated unloading of sucrose from the host's phloem

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 252, Issue 2, Page 829-842, October 2026.
Cuscuta reflexa infection sites. Summary Cuscuta species are holoparasitic plants that penetrate host stems with haustoria, connect to the vasculature and exhaust water, nutrients and carbohydrates. Parasite seedlings possess only limited maternal reserves and the development of a vascular connection takes several days.
