A small, spherical bubble of high internal pressure is inserted into water at constant ambient pressure as a model of a laser-induced bubble. Its subsequent dynamics near a flat solid boundary is studied in dependence on the distance of the bubble to the

Flexible carbon nanotube chemoresistors detect NH3 through charge‐transfer interactions directly revealed by in situ synchrotron X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Binding‐energy shifts of ≈1 eV correlate with resistance changes, demonstrating that intra‐CNT charge transfer between NH3 and CNTs is the dominant sensing mechanism.

Mortality and crown conditions on Quercus robur L. permanent plots - a 20-year overview [PDF]
Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) forests in Slovenia are experiencing widespread mortality. Changes in lowlands are reflected in decline of complete forest complexes, high mortality, uneven stand structure and associated forest regeneration problems ...

Estimating leaf area index in different types of mature forest stands in Switzerland: a comparison of methods [PDF]
Leaf area index (LAI) was estimated at 15 sites in the Swiss Long-Term Forest Ecosystem Research Programme (LWF) in 2004-2005 using two indirect techniques: the LAI-2000 plant canopy analyzer (Licor Inc.) and digital hemispherical photography, applying ...

Abstract In recent years, digital repeat photography has received increasing attention as an inexpensive means by which seasonal changes in vegetation canopies can be monitored. Offering automation and an increased measurement frequency, colour indices derived from above-canopy digital repeat photography have proven a popular alternative to ...

Cr2AlC: A High‐Temperature Transparent Conducting Ceramic
The high‐quality epitaxial Cr2AlC(0001) layer combines a low resistivity of 42.5 µΩcm, 84% optical transmittance at 900 nm, and thermal stability up to 800–1100°C. It stands out as an excellent high‐temperature transparent conductor with a negligible resistivity size effect, exceptional scaling (ρoλ < 3 × 10−16 Ωm2), and a figure of merit of 0.004 Ω−1.

BLOC: Buildable and Linkable Organ on a Chip
We developed a “Buildable and Linkable Organ on a Chip” (BLOC) that can construct diverse microphysiological systems (MPSs). The BLOC is standardized to the same size and has one of the functions of “Culture,” “Control,” or “Analysis.” Users can freely configure various MPSs, including developing perfusion, cytotoxicity analysis, and biochemical ...
