A Case of Paroxysmal Sympathetic Hyperactivity due to Cardiogenic Shock

open access: yesAcute Medicine &Surgery, Volume 13, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Paroxysmal sympathetic hyperactivity (PSH) following cardiogenic shock without structural brain injury. A patient with cardiogenic shock requiring mechanical circulatory support developed recurrent episodes of hyperthermia, tachycardia, tachypnea, diaphoresis, and hypertonia during recovery.

Echocardiographic Indices in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease and Their Association with Hemodialysis-to-Hemodiafiltration Transfer: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesMedicina
Background and Objectives: The assessment of cardiac function in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is vital due to their high cardiovascular risk.

Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein Serum Concentrations and Cardiovascular Morbidity in End Stage of Renal Disease

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease, 2018
Introduction: Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) is considered a main biomarker of oxidative stress, a common characteristic in end stage renal disease. We examined the relationship between ox-LDL serum concentrations and cardiovascular disease in

Effect of Aging in the Perception of Health-Related Quality of Life in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients under Online-Hemodiafiltration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This work aimed to evaluate how aging could influence patients' perception of health quality of life (HRQOL), as well as, the effect of aging on dialysis adequacy and in hematological, iron status, inflammatory and nutritional markers.

Hemodiafiltration with ultrafiltrate regeneration reduces free light chains without albumin loss in multiple myeloma patients

open access: yesBMC Nephrology, 2020
Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) occurs in 12–20% of multiple myeloma (MM) patients. Several studies have shown a reduction of free light chains (FLC) using hemodialysis with High-Cut-Off membranes.

Ultrafiltration Membrane Process for Pyrogen Removal in the Preparation of Water for Injection (WFI) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
An artificial kidney process based on ultrafiltration (called hemodiafiltration) more effectively removes blood toxins, particularly those of higher molecular weight, than conventional dialysis.

Intradialytic cardiac magnetic resonance imaging to assess cardiovascular responses in a short-term trial of hemodiafiltration and hemodialysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hemodynamic stress during hemodialysis (HD) results in recurrent segmental ischemic injury (myocardial stunning) that drives cumulative cardiac damage.
