Adaptive Observer for Coupled Wave PDE and Infinite ODE With Sampled Data and Unknown Input: Application to Brain Hemodynamics Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

Wearable Kirigami‐Apertured Capacitive Sensors for Continuous Cardiac Volumetric Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A wearable kirigami‐apertured carbon nanotube‐paper composite (K‐CPC) capacitive sensor enables cardiac volumetric monitoring. The kirigami process creates a central aperture with cantilevered fibers that confine the electric field, enhancing both sensitivity and lateral resolution.

Vascularization of Human iPSC‐Derived Kidney Organoids Using Perfusion Culture, Pre‐Vascularized Collagen Scaffolds, and Decellularized Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
An integrated perfusion‐based culture platform combining pre‐vascularized collagen scaffolds, stromal vascular fraction cells, and kidney decellularized extracellular matrix promotes vascularization of human iPSC‐derived kidney organoids. The platform provides evidence of interactions between vascular networks and glomerular‐like structures and enables

Circadian Variation in Vasoconstriction and Vasodilation Mediators and Baroreflex Sensitivity in Hypertensive Rats

open access: yesJournal of Circadian Rhythms, 2019
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the circadian profile of the vasorelaxing substances calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) and the vasconstrictive agent endothelin-1 (ET1) and the ...

Mechanotransduction of Magnetically Applied Forces Leads to Mechanical Stiffening of Platelet‐Rich Plugs

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A microfluidic device with magnetic microposts was used to assess platelet mechanobiology. The oscillatory actuation of posts with embedded iron particles was dampened by the dynamic stiffening of the platelet‐rich plugs. This stiffening process increased with applied load, but inhibiting platelet activation (ASA) or myosin contractility (blebbistatin)
