Two‐Year Follow‐Up of a Multidisciplinary Lifestyle Intervention for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The Plants for Joints (PFJ) intervention, including a whole‐food plant‐based diet, exercise, and stress reduction, reduced signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or metabolic syndrome–associated hip or knee osteoarthritis (MSOA) compared to usual care.

U-shaped curve for risk associated with maternal hemoglobin, iron status, or iron supplementation.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2017
Both iron deficiency (ID) and excess can lead to impaired health status. There is substantial evidence of a U-shaped curve between the risk of adverse birth outcomes and maternal hemoglobin concentrations during pregnancy; however, it is unclear whether ...

The Regulation of Trace Metal Elements in Cancer Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The induction of ferroptosis inhibits tumor growth, enhances anticancer efficacy, and overcomes drug resistance. Recent evidence shows nonferrous metal elements play a role in ferroptosis. This review focuses on how trace metals regulate ferroptosis processes like iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defense.

Low proportions of glycosylated hemoglobin associated with hemoglobin S and hemoglobin C.

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1979
Abstract Using a cation-exchange chromatographic method, we found normal or subnormal values for glycosylated hemoglobin in a few diabetic patients with persistent hyperglycemia. Subsequent investigations revealed that these unexpected results had originated from black patients with diabetes.

Is Hemoglobin Antigenic? [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Infectious Diseases, 1919
Thus in work reported by Leblanc,1 a precipitin for beef hemoglobin was obtained by immunizing a dog with a preparation obtained by saturating laked, washed, red cells with ammonium sulphate after removal of globulins and stromata. This preparation was by no means pure since no attempt was made to free the hemoglobin from possible contamination by ...

Discovery of GBT440, an Orally Bioavailable R-State Stabilizer of Sickle Cell Hemoglobin

open access: yesACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2017
We report the discovery of a new potent allosteric effector of sickle cell hemoglobin, GBT440 (36), that increases the affinity of hemoglobin for oxygen and consequently inhibits its polymerization when subjected to hypoxic conditions.

Consolidate Overview of Ribonucleic Acid Molecular Dynamics: From Molecular Movements to Material Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular dynamics simulations are advancing the study of ribonucleic acid (RNA) and RNA‐conjugated molecules. These developments include improvements in force fields, long‐timescale dynamics, and coarse‐grained models, addressing limitations and refining methods.

Suppression of erythropoiesis by actinomycin D. 3. The effect of actinomycin D on the hemoglobin level of bone marrow erythrocytes and erythroblasts [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
For the purpose of revealing whether or not hemoglobin synthesis is inhibited by the AMD, the author estimated the hemoglobin level of AMD treated anilmals by microspectrophotometer, and found that the hemoglobin levels of all the developmental stages of

Hemoglobin: A Nitric-Oxide Dioxygenase

open access: yesScientifica, 2012
Members of the hemoglobin superfamily efficiently catalyze nitric-oxide dioxygenation, and when paired with native electron donors, function as NO dioxygenases (NODs).

Association of Hemoglobin Concentration and Its Change With Cardiovascular and All‐Cause Mortality

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association : Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2018
Background Anemia is thought to increase mortality risks, but the effects of high hemoglobin concentration on survival are unclear. The effect of change in hemoglobin concentrations on survival in the general population is also unknown.
