A Study on Proteolytic Enzyme Activity in the Erythrocytes of Diabetic Patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The present study demonstrates the possibility of increased proteolytic activities in diabetic individuals. Proteolytic activity was measured by the amount of amino group released by the erythrocyte lysate of the diabetic individual using phenylhydrazine

Ladder‐Type Benzene‐Perylene Dyes with Efficient Laser Properties in the Near‐IR by Detracting/Activating Low/High Frequency Vibronic Modes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The NNR‐n series of oligomeric nanographenes delivers exceptional emission performance. This work shows that this performance is originated by their ladder‐type structure, which effectively deactivates low‐frequency vibronic modes. This deactivation neglects the main pathway for non‐emissive deactivation, even in the near‐infrared region. The potential

Haptoglobin administration into the subarachnoid space prevents hemoglobin-induced cerebral vasospasm.

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 2019
Delayed ischemic neurological deficit (DIND) is a major driver of adverse outcomes in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) defining an unmet need for therapeutic development. Cell-free hemoglobin that is released from erythrocytes into

Direct Evidence of Topological Dirac Fermions in a Low Carrier Density Correlated 5d Oxide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The 5d oxide BiRe2O6 is discovered as a low‐carrier‐density topological semimetal hosting symmetry‐protected Dirac fermions stabilized by nonsymmorphic symmetries. Angle‐resolved photoemission spectroscopy, quantum oscillations, and magnetotransport measurements reveal gapless Dirac cones, quasi‐2D Fermi surfaces, high carrier mobility, and a field ...

Cross-sectional and longitudinal association between hemoglobin concentration and hypertension

open access: yesMedicine, 2016
We investigated the cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between hemoglobin concentration and hypertension in a Korean population. Between 2006 and 2013, we examined 4899 participants with mean age of 56.6 years (range 35–88 years) from a rural ...

Self‐Immolative Activatable Nanoassembly toward Immuno‐Photodynamic Therapy in TME

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A quinone methide‐gated, self‐immolative, H2O2‐responsive nano‐photosensitizer (Pyz/PS) is developed for targeted immuno‐photodynamic therapy. Pyz/PS selectively activates within tumor microenvironments, restores photosensitizer activity, generates ROS, and depletes intracellular GSH, enhancing oxidative stress.

Eigenspectra optoacoustic tomography achieves quantitative blood oxygenation imaging deep in tissues

open access: yes, 2015
Light propagating in tissue attains a spectrum that varies with location due to wavelength-dependent fluence attenuation by tissue optical properties, an effect that causes spectral corruption.
