Hemoglobin Switching: A Cellular Model

Science, 1980
Regulation of hemoglobin synthesis depends in part on the population of cells available for erythroid differentiation. Mouse erythroleukemia cells were cloned, and the clones were induced with dimethyl sulfoxide to test the relative induction of β minor and β major synthesis.

Combined Fenton and starvation therapies using hemoglobin and glucose oxidase.

Nanoscale, 2019
Separately, Fenton and starvation cancer therapies have been recently reported as impressive methods for tumor destruction. Here, we introduce natural hemoglobin and glucose oxidase (GOx) for efficient cancer treatment following combined Fenton and ...

Abnormal human hemoglobins X. A study of hemoglobin leporeBoston

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1965
Abstract An abnormal hemoglobin has been isolated from two related individuals of Italian extraction. This abnormal hemoglobin has been identified with hemoglobin LeporeBoston on the basis of the fingerprinting pattern. Chemical studies have been performed on the “core” of this hemoglobin Lepore.

A Family with Hemoglobin Hirosaki

International Journal of Hematology, 2005
A 48-year-old man had a 30-year history of hemolytic anemia of undetermined cause. Spherocytes were not observed, osmotic fragility was normal, and red cell enzyme activities were normal. His brother and daughter also had hemolytic anemia. The brother had previously undergone splenectomy, and the anemia had been ameliorated. In the proband and daughter,

A Gas-Hemoglobin Diffusion Photometer

IRE Transactions on Medical Electronics, 1960
A double-beam photometer is described which employs a single photocell and motor-driven shutter synchronized with alternately energized screens in a gated amplifier. The equipment is used for indicating and recording monochromatic light absorption changes by a thin layer of hemoglobin-containing media exposed to diffusion of various gases.

MP4, a Vasodilatory PEGylated Hemoglobin

2011
A vasodilatory hemoglobin (Hb)-based O(2) carrier (HBOC) has been developed by surface conjugation polyethylene glycol to tetrameric human Hb (MP4, Sangart, San Diego). Because the NO-binding kinetics of MP4 are similar to vasoconstrictive HBOCs, we propose that the decoupling of NO scavenging from vascular response is a consequence of MP4's high O(2 ...

A Family with Hemoglobin I

Blood, 1963
Abstract Hemoglobin I was recently found in a Negro family. The amino acid substitution was shown to occur in the sixteenth residue of the α chain (lys → asp) and to be identical with hemoglobin I described by Murayama.10 The minor component, I2, was demonstrated by agar gel electrophoresis.

Hemoglobin in a Coacervate System

Biomaterials, Artificial Cells and Artificial Organs, 1990
Hemoglobin dissolved in a coacervate system shows the properties of a resuscitation fluid. In the coacervate system used, the equilibrium phase was the colloid rich phase. We propose a new definition of the coacervate phase to be that phase in a coacervate system which is most dissimilar to water in its physical chemical properties.

Hemoglobin Jamaica Plain — A Sickling Hemoglobin with Reduced Oxygen Affinity

New England Journal of Medicine, 2004
A baby girl presented with symptomatic sickle cell disease exacerbated by mild hypoxemia, despite a newborn-screening diagnosis of sickle cell trait. DNA sequencing of the beta globin gene revealed that her maternal beta globin allele was normal. Her paternal allele had not only the expected sickle-trait mutation, betaGlu6Val, but also a second, charge-
