Hemoperfusion and Immunomodulation

2023
Recent development in sorbent technology has spurred new interest in the potential of hemoperfusion (HP) in clinical conditions such as cytokine release syndromes and sepsis. Although the role of nonselective HP in such conditions requires solid evidence and more studies, the rationale for clinical application is clearly emerging.

Hemoperfusion in Leptospirosis

2023
Leptospirosis is the most common zoonosis frequently seen in the tropics and subtropics especially during the rainy season when humans wade in floods contaminated by the urine of infected rats in urban areas. Aside from direct toxicity of the leptospires, the role of an exuberant immune response to the pathogen leading to secondary organ damage has ...

Hemoperfusion to Treat Intoxications

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1979
Hemoperfusion is being increasingly proposed and used for the treatment of a large variety of exogenous intoxications. This procedure has been shown to achieve high clearance rates of most common intoxicants, and case reports have claimed that its application has been, on occasion, life-saving.

Hemoperfusion in Quinidine Intoxication

Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1981
ABSTRACT. A case report on quinidine intoxication is presented. After having ingested 8.1 g quinidine the patient had clinical and ECG signs of a severe intoxication and a serum quinidine level of 8.5 mg 1. She was treated for six hours with charcoal hemoperfusion. Serum quinidine was on an average 36% lower after than before the cartridge.

Hemoperfusion in 1981

2015
The present status of hemoperfusion using the principle of artificial cells is described in detail using coated charcoal hemoperfusion as an example. The laboratory and clinical results show that in 1981 increasing numbers of new commercial models are approaching the efficiency and blood compatibility of the ACAC laboratory system.
