Thirty years of hemovigilance – Achievements and future perspectives
Transfusion Clinique Et Biologique, 2023Since its emergence in the early 1990s, hemovigilance has gradually evolved from a blood safety concept focused on surveillance of adverse reactions and events in patients, to a well-defined system that monitors the entire transfusion chain and improves its safety. The importance of hemovigilance has been recognized globally in a relatively short time,

Hemovigilance: Clinical Tolerance of Solvent‐Detergent Treated Plasma
AbstractObjective: This study was conducted to assess retrospectively the clinical tolerance of SD treated plasma and to compare it to other labile blood products (red blood cell and platelet concentrates). Method: Adverse events (AEs) related to the use of blood products at the Blood Transfusion Center (BTC) are routinely collected through a ...

Transfusion and Apheresis Science, 2005
In Norway, 55 hospitals collect blood and there are 62 hospital associated laboratories that issue blood. All of the blood banks in Norway have performed universal leukodepletion of cellular blood components since 2001. Approximately 200,000 whole blood donations are performed per year and approximately 250,000 blood components are transfused.

Hemovigilance in the United States of America
Vox Sanguinis, 1998AbstractAlthough hemovigilance is not a word used commonly in the United States, the concept of monitoring morbidity associated with blood transfusion is accepted widely. Currently, quality management focuses on error avoidance rather than error detection in both the “manufacturing” and “clinical” aspects of blood banking.
