A high‐altitude thermal infrared method for estimating moose abundance and demography in Rocky Mountain National Park, USA

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Resource managers require accurate estimates of large herbivore abundance and demography to maintain ecological integrity. Common methods to count these species, including observations from low altitude helicopter flights, may conflict with other protected area management objectives and struggle to produce precise estimates for more cryptic species. To

Monismo Metafísico y Pluralismo Taxonómico

open access: yesCulturas Cientificas, 2018
Argumento en contra de la interpretación de Marc Ereshefsky según la cual Willi Hennig se compromete con el pluralismo metafísico en su teoría de la sistemática filogenética aunque desde el punto de vista taxonómico es un monista.

Design considerations for breeding waterfowl surveys

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, EarlyView.
This study evaluated how different survey designs affect the accuracy and precision of breeding waterfowl population estimates in Iowa's Prairie Pothole Region. Using aerial survey data from 2016–2018, we found that conducting at least 2 visits per season reduced bias in pair estimates, particularly for wood ducks and blue‐winged teal, while mallard ...

Spectrophotometric studies of the photolysis of diazido-bis(phosphine)-metal(II) complexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The photolysis of mixed ligand complexes of the type MLn(N3)2 (M=Ni, Pd, Pt; L = phosphane and diphosphane ligands, respectively; n = 1, 2) was monitored by electronic spectroscopy in absorption, emission and excitation.

Implicit self-consistent electrolyte model in plane-wave density-functional theory.

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Physics, 2016
The ab initio computational treatment of electrochemical systems requires an appropriate treatment of the solid/liquid interfaces. A fully quantum mechanical treatment of the interface is computationally demanding due to the large number of degrees of ...

Localization Properties of Electronic States in Polaron Model of poly(dG)-poly(dC) and poly(dA)-poly(dT) DNA polymers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We numerically investigate localization properties of electronic states in a static model of poly(dG)-poly(dC) and poly(dA)-poly(dT) DNA polymers with realistic parameters obtained by quantum-chemical calculation.

Homo luzonensis and the role of homoplasy in the morphology of hominin insular species

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Homo luzonensis lived during the upper Pleistocene in the northern Philippines, east of the Wallace line. The few specimens attributed to this species show a mosaic of plesiomorphies for the genus Homo and apomorphies found in upper Pleistocene Homo species.
