Non-local non-linear sigma models

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2019
We study non-local non-linear sigma models in arbitrary dimension, focusing on the scale invariant limit in which the scalar fields naturally have scaling dimension zero, so that the free propagator is logarithmic.

Surface Acidity Engineering: From Fundamental Insights to Universal Design Rules for Electrocatalytically and Electrically Active Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review highlights surface acidity engineering as a versatile strategy to modulate surface charge and boost catalytic performance in functional oxides. It explores recent advances in practical implementation, structural reconstruction approaches, and mechanistic origins from diverse complementary viewpoints.

Beyond the Gold Standard: Towards Industrially Viable Electrodes for Durable Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Transparent and opaque electrode materials are mapped by raw material cost per 1 m2 electrode area and retained median device efficiency after heat–light ageing. FTO offers a lower‐cost and more stable alternative to ITO, while Cr/Al provides the lowest‐cost rear electrode investigated with Au‐like stability and substantially improved durability ...

Reconfiguring Fresh Produce Supply Chains in Response to Drought Risk: Evidence From the U.S. Broccoli Market

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drought is among the most severe and persistent threats to food supply chains, and relocating production to less drought‐prone regions offers a strategy to reduce this risk. This is particularly relevant for fresh vegetables, which are highly water‐intensive, yet drought‐driven reconfiguration strategies remain understudied.

Asking the 5 W's for designing next‐generation bioprocessing

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Biotechnology is expanding beyond traditional, centralized fermentation and toward next‐generation bioprocessing paradigms that emphasize flexible deployment outside the laboratory with application‐specific performance. However, many bioprocesses fail to translate beyond proof‐of‐concept into industrially viable systems because early design ...

The Jamesian Material Self: Show Me Your House and I Will Tell You Who You Are! [PDF]

open access: yesCultural Intertexts, 2017
The major purpose of this study is to analyse the aspects and the role of the Material Self present in the novel The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James. The Material Self is a constituent of the Empirical Self which William James (Henry James‘s brother)

Physics‐encoded transfer learning for scale‐up modeling of CHO cell bioreactors

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Developing reliable predictive models for mammalian cell bioreactors, particularly Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cultures widely used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, remains challenging due to severe data scarcity in industrial‐scale reactors.

High‐elevation endemic plants predicted to lose habitat from changing climate in Washington State

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise High‐elevation plants face unique challenges from potential climate change impacts that will likely require upslope migration into increasingly smaller suitable habitat. This situation is particularly acute for endemic species that by definition occupy small geographic ranges.

Flavin Catalysts in Organic Synthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Flavins and their congeners are potent catalysts for organic synthesis inspired by enzymatic transformations. In addition to catalysis in the flavin ground state via covalent intermediates, the excited singlet and triplet states unlock applications including photooxidation, photoreduction, and energy transfer via sensitization.
