Highly divergent cattle hepacivirus N in Southern Brazil
Archives of Virology, 2019The genus Hepacivirus includes 14 species (Hepacivirus A-N). In this study, we determined a partial genome sequence of a highly divergent bovine hepacivirus (hepacivirus N, HNV) isolate from cattle in Southern Brazil. Previously described HNV isolates have shared 80-99.7% nucleotide sequence identity in the NS3 coding region.

Presence of two different bovine hepacivirus clusters in Germany
Transboundary and Emerging Diseases, 2018During the last years, genetic information of hepaciviruses (family Flaviviridae), whose type species is the human hepatitis C virus, was detected in a wide range of primates and non-primate vertebrates. Here, samples collected from 263 German cattle kept in 22 different holdings were analysed for the presence of hepacivirus N (syn. bovine hepacivirus;

Hepacivirus cross-species transmission and the origins of the hepatitis C virus
Current Opinion in Virology, 2016Just 5 years ago the hepatitis C virus (HCV) - a major cause of liver disease infecting >3% of people worldwide - was the sole confirmed member of the Hepacivirus genus. Since then, genetically-diverse hepaciviruses have been isolated from bats, dogs, cows, horses, primates and rodents.

Equine hepacivirus (EqHV), also referred to as non-primate hepacivirus (NPHV), infects horses —and dogs in some instances— and is closely related to hepatitis C virus (HCV) that has infected up to 3 % of the world’s human population, causing an epidemic of liver cirrhosis and cancer.

Genetic and serological surveillance for non-primate hepacivirus in horses in Japan
Veterinary Microbiology, 2015Non-primate hepacivirus (NPHV) is a recently discovered homolog of the hepatitis C virus in horses. The frequency and distribution of NPHV infections among horses in Japan is unknown. In this study, serum samples from 453 horses across Japan were screened for NPHV RNA using real-time RT-PCR and anti-nonstructural 3 protein (NS3) antibodies using the ...

Two bovine hepacivirus genome sequences from U.S. cattle
Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic InvestigationBovine hepacivirus (BoHV) is closely related to the hepatitis C virus (HCV) in humans and can cause both acute and chronic liver infections in cattle. BoHV was first identified in Ghana and Germany in 2015 and since then it has been detected and characterized in other countries around the world, but no strains have been sequenced from U.S. cattle.

Detection of a novel hepacivirus in wild cavies (Cavia aperea aperea)
Archives of VirologyHepacivirus is a genus of RNA viruses within the family Flaviviridae of which hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the prototype. Several hepaciviruses have been identified in mammals, including rodents of multiple families. Each rodent hepacivirus described so far has been found only in members of a single rodent species.
