Primary extrahepatic alveolar echinococcosis of the lumbar spine and the psoas muscle

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials, 2011
Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) of human being caused by Echinococcus multilocularis is a rare but important zoonosis especially in tempered zones of middle Europe and Northern America with endemic character in many countries.

Modeling Coating Flow and Surfactant Dynamics inside the Alveolar Compartment [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We derive a new model for the coating flow inside the alveolar compartment, taking into account pulmonary surfactant production and recycling by Type 2 cells as well as its degradation. As the thickness of alveolar coating is much smaller than the average radius of the alveoli, we employ the classical lubrication approximation to describe the thin ...

Drug repurposing for hard-to-treat human alveolar echinococcosis: pyronaridine and beyond

open access: yesParasitology
Human alveolar echinococcosis is a hard-to-treat and largely untreated parasitic disease with high associated health care costs. The current antiparasitic treatment for alveolar echinococcosis relies exclusively on albendazole, which does not act ...

Computer-aided hepatic tumour ablation [PDF]

open access: yesLecture notes in computer science (LNCS) 2208 (2001) 1145-1146, 2006
Surgical resection of hepatic tumours is not always possible. Alternative techniques consist in locally using chemical or physical agents to destroy the tumour and this may be performed percutaneously. It requires a precise localisation of the tumour placement during ablation.

Classification of Hepatic Lesions using the Matching Metric [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
In this paper we present a methodology of classifying hepatic (liver) lesions using multidimensional persistent homology, the matching metric (also called the bottleneck distance), and a support vector machine. We present our classification results on a dataset of 132 lesions that have been outlined and annotated by radiologists.

The role of contrast-enhanced ultrasound in the diagnosis of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis

open access: yesMedicine, 2019
Abstract To evaluate the value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) compared with ultrasound (US) in the diagnosis of hepatic alveolar echinococcosis (AE). Thirty-one patients with 43 hepatic AE lesions between January 2010 and September 2017 were included in the study.
