First human study in treatment of unresectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer with irinotecan-loaded beads (DEBIRI) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The objective of this pilot clinical study was to assess the safety, technical feasibility, pharmacokinetic (PK) profile and tumour response of DC Bead™ with irinotecan (DEBIRI™) delivered by intra-arterial embolisation for the treatment of metastatic ...

Targeting p21‐High Senescent Kupffer Cells Nanotherapeutically Potentiates Antitumor Immunity in Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of a biomimetic SKEV@AAV platform targeting p21‐high senescent Kupffer cells (sKCs) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT). p21‐high sKCs accumulate in the PVTT microenvironment and establish an immunosuppressive, SASP‐rich environment that facilitates tumor cell proliferation and immune evasion.

Liver resection at the time of secondary cytoreduction in ovarian cancer

open access: yesGynecologic Oncology Reports
Background: Hepatic involvement in recurrent ovarian cancer has historically been considered a relative contraindication to cytoreductive surgery. Advances in hepatobiliary surgery and multidisciplinary collaboration have expanded the role of liver ...

Hepatic resection is associated with reduced postoperative opioid requirement

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2016
Background and Aims: Postoperative pain can significantly affect surgical outcomes. As opioid metabolism is liver-dependent, any reduction in hepatic volume can lead to increased opioid concentrations in the blood.

Lymph Node Metastasis Pattern and Influencing Factors in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesAGING MEDICINE, EarlyView.
Among 388 patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent curative resection, 144 (37.1%) developed lymph node metastasis. Upper thoracic tumors mainly involved upper mediastinal and upper right paratracheal nodes, whereas lower thoracic tumors more often involved paracardial and abdominal nodes.

Recurrent Hepatic Sarcomatoid Carcinoma Cured by Doxorubicin and Ifosfamide Chemotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Cancer Research and Practice, 2015
Hepatic sarcomatoid carcinoma is a rare malignant neoplasm composed of both carcinomatous and sarcomatous components. It has a higher risk of relapse and distant metastasis compared with ordinary hepatocellular carcinoma despite of radical resection.

Recent Advances in Functional Liver Volumetry: Emphasis on 99mTc‐GSA SPECT/CT Fusion Imaging

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Functional liver volumetry enables more accurate assessment of the future liver remnant by integrating anatomical and functional information, improving risk stratification before major hepatectomy. Among available techniques, 99mTc‐GSA SPECT/CT fusion imaging enables precise regional functional assessment and more reliable prediction of post ...
