Lung‐Cardiovascular Interactions and Derangements in ARDS

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 5, October 2026.
This review proposes an anatomical near‐ and far‐field framework for lung‐cardiovascular interactions in ARDS. Grounded in pathological and biological studies, the evidence spans pulmonary vascular, right ventricular, and systemic endothelial derangements and reviews available evidence for targeted therapies.

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps in Atherosclerosis and Cardiovascular Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
NETs as integrated effectors in the atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease continuum. Activated neutrophils release NETs that promote endothelial injury, thrombo‐inflammation, and plaque destabilization throughout atherosclerotic disease progression. Created with BioRender.com.

Dynamic Changes of Neutrophil Nuclear Membrane CD63 as a Potential Biomarker for Early Adjunctive Diagnosis and Prognostic Evaluation of Sepsis in Critically Ill Patients: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Here, we report that nuclear membrane CD63 (nmCD63), a marker of targeted nuclear degranulation in neutrophils, represents a novel biomarker for sepsis. In a two‐center prospective cohort with independent external validation, nmCD63 outperforms CRP and PCT for early sepsis diagnosis, with the nmCD63+SOFA combined model reaching an AUC of 0.943.

Iron and Other Metal Ions in Human Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Iron, copper, zinc, and calcium orchestrate cellular function through distinct yet cooperative mechanisms: redox‐active iron and copper cycle between oxidation states to act as Fenton catalysts and electron carriers in oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS); redox‐inert zinc serves as a structural component of zinc‐finger proteins and a catalytic cofactor ...

Cancer Cell Metastasis: From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
The schematic representation of intrinsic and extrinsic influences of cancer cell metastasis. Genomic evolution of metastatic tumor cells (MTCs) promotes their metastatic phenotypes and reconstruct the primary tumor microenvironment. During MTCs migration along different routes (blood circulation, lymphatic vessels, and perineuronal spaces), the ...

Mitochondrial Fusion and Fission in Age‐Related Cardio‐Cerebral Diseases: Mechanisms and Interventions

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
Mitochondrial fission‐fusion imbalance contributes to age‐related cardio‐cerebral diseases like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Cerebral Infarction, Arteriosclerosis, Myocardial Infarction, Cardiac valve disease, Hypertension, and Cardiomyopathy. This review summarizes its regulatory mechanisms and interventions.

uPAR‐Targeting T Cell Engager Exerts Senolytic Effects in Mice and Non‐Human Primates With Serum Aminotransferase Activity as a Safety Monitor

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 10, October 2026.
GFD‐CD3, a uPAR‐targeting T‐cell engager, effectively cleared senescent cells and mitigated age‐related pathologies with a favorable safety profile under transaminase‐guided monitoring. ABSTRACT Senolytic CAR‐T cells targeting uPAR induce dose‐dependent toxicities.

Life‐stage variation in Sable Shearwater (Ardenna carneipes) physiology assessed using proteomics

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 4, Page 1500-1515, October 2026.
Life‐stage transitions in seabirds involve substantial shifts in physiological demands, yet the molecular mechanisms underpinning these changes remain poorly resolved. Here we applied untargeted data‐independent acquisition mass spectrometry (DIA‐MS) to characterize and compare the plasma proteomes of fledgling and adult Sable Shearwaters Ardenna ...

Liver and Spleen Stiffness as Non‐Invasive Tools Assessing Liver Congestion in Patients With Budd‐Chiari Syndrome

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Assessing liver congestion and portal hypertension (PHT) in Budd–Chiari syndrome (BCS) remains challenging. We evaluated liver and spleen stiffness measurements (LSM, SSM) obtained by transient elastography as non‐invasive tools for identifying clinically meaningful liver congestion in BCS.

An Automated Microfluidic System for Haemostasis Assessment in Cirrhosis With Thrombocytopenia

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background & Aims Conventional laboratory tests do not capture platelet–vessel wall interactions (primary haemostasis) occurring in vivo, limiting guidance before invasive procedures. This is relevant in patients with thrombocytopenia, hallmark of advanced cirrhosis. Microfluidic assays may overcome these limitations.
