Novel molecular mechanisms of immune evasion in hepatocellular carcinoma: NSUN2‐mediated increase of SOAT2 RNA methylation

open access: yesCancer Communications, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a deadly malignancy known for its ability to evade immune surveillance. NOP2/Sun RNA methyltransferase family member 2 (NSUN2), an RNA methyltransferase involved in carcinogenesis, has been associated with immune evasion and energy metabolism reprogramming.

Targeted decrease of portal hepatic pressure gradient improves ascites control after TIPS

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The river diagram demonstrates that after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt insertion (TIPS) the majority of patients without ascites and 50% of the patients with ascites detectable at ultrasound, show the best response in the long term follow‐up.

Hepatitis C, hepatitis B and HIV infection among Egyptian prisoners: Seroprevalence, risk factors and related chronic liver diseases

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health, 2013
Summary: Background and aim: Prisons in Egypt do not currently screen for blood-borne viruses, and there are no statistics concerning the prevalence of hepatitis C virus, hepatitis B virus or human immunodeficiency virus among prisoners.

Associations of body mass index and waist circumference with incidence of overall and of 27 site‐specific cancers: a population‐based retrospective cohort study

open access: yesCancer Communications, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Overweight and obesity are known risk factors for cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate associations of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) with incidence of 27 site‐specific cancers stratified by sex and menopausal status accounting for non‐linearity.

Promising Prodiginins Biological Activities

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Prodiginins are a large family of at least 34 pyrrolic compounds, including the well‐studied red pigment prodigiosin. Prodiginins are produced by several microorganisms displaying broad biological activities, including antimicrobial, antiviral, antiparasitic, antiproliferative, and immunosuppressive activities.

The NADPH oxidase NOX4 regulates redox and metabolic homeostasis preventing HCC progression

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Loss of NOX4 in HCC tumor cells induces metabolic reprogramming in a Nrf2/MYC‐dependent manner to promote HCC progression. Abstract Background and Aims The NADPH oxidase NOX4 plays a tumor‐suppressor function in HCC. Silencing NOX4 confers higher proliferative and migratory capacity to HCC cells and increases their in vivo tumorigenic potential in ...
