Hepatitis D virus (HDV) (Hepatitis delta)
1994Infection with hepatitis delta virus is dependent on the simultaneous presence of hepatitis B virus and reaches a maximum in persons with the highest levels of HBV replication. Classification of HDV remains uncertain; distinct from any known human virus, the RNA genome of HDV is similar to that of plant viroids.

Management of Hepatitis B Virus Coinfection: HIV, Hepatitis C Virus, Hepatitis D Virus
Current Hepatitis Reports, 2011Coinfection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) with HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis D virus (HDV) is common because of shared modes of transmission. Increasing prevalence of high risk sexual behavior and intra venous drug use (IVDU) contributes to a majority of the cases with coinfection.

Virus hepatitisa D: Hepatitis D virus:

The hepatitis D virus (HDV) or delta agent is a defective RNA virus that requires HBV infection to complete its replication. Thus, HDV infection only occurs with simultaneous HBV co-infection or by super-infection of someone chronically infected with HBV.

Hepatitis B Virus and Hepatitis D Virus Replication in Hbsag–Positive Fulminant Hepatitis
Hepatology, 1990Hepatitis B virus DNA and hepatitis D virus RNA, the most sensitive markers of hepatitis B and hepatitis D virus replication, were sought by molecular hybridization with radioactive probes in serial serum samples from 29 consecutive patients with HBsAg–positive fulminant hepatitis. Nineteen patients had evidence of hepatitis D

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) entry is the initial step of viral infection, leading to the formation of covalently closed circular DNA, which is a molecular reservoir of viral persistence and a key obstacle for HBV cure. The restricted entry of HBV into specific cell types determines the nature of HBV, which has a narrow host range in tissues and species ...
