Massive Hepatocellular Necrosis: Was it Caused by Orlistat?
Medicine, Science and the Law, 2002Orlistat (tetrahydrolipostatin) is a lipase inhibitor which is used, in conjunction with appropriate dietary control, for the treatment of obesity. It is generally deemed to be a safe drug, which mainly exerts a topical action on the stomach and small bowel, with negligible systemic absorption and oral bioavailability.

Dose-Dependency of Hepatocellular Necrosis in a Canine Model of Chemoembolization
Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 1994The degree of local tissue toxicity from hepatic arterial chemoembolization relative to the dose of anticancer drugs was evaluated in 13 dogs.Animals were divided into four groups. Group 1 was the control group in which embolization was performed with gelatin sponge particles only (n = 4); group 2 animals underwent embolization with 0.4 mg/kg of ...

The Role of Necrosis in Hepatocellular Proliferation and Liver Tumors
1987A sequence of events which appear to be common in the development of cancer in all mammalian species includes atrophy, hyperplasia, and neoplasia. Evidence to date suggests that cell death (necrosis) is an integral, perhaps essential, factor in the initiation and maintenance of the process but the extent to which necrosis is involved, and the nature of

Distribution of Lipiodol and Evidence for Tumor Necrosis in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1992To study the distribution and thromboembolic effect of Ultrafluid Lipiodol, 15 surgically removed hepatocellular carcinomas with selective intraarterial Lipiodol injection 7 to 10 days before surgery and 15 noninjected controls were studied radiologically and histologically. Tissue blocks were processed with an en bloc silver impregnation technique for

Hepatocellular Death: Apoptosis, Autophagy, Necrosis and Necroptosis
2020Without a doubt, hepatocellular death exists in all types of human liver disease such as viral, metabolic, autoimmune and toxic conditions. Presently, the recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death 2018 are grading cell death into three morphotypes apoptosis, autophagy and necrosis.

Contrast‐enhanced sonography of a hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing spontaneous necrosis
Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 2008AbstractSpontaneous necrosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is rare. We report the case of a 72‐year‐old woman with an HCC nodule that underwent necrosis after sonographically guided needle biopsy. Baseline sonographic examination revealed only a nonspecific change in the echogenicity of the lesion.

A neoplasm demonstrating both pancreatic and hepatic phenotypes is described. The tumor, from a 53-year-old woman with the syndrome of subcutaneous fat necrosis and arthropathy, was studied histologically, immunohistochemically, ultrastructurally, and biochemically.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation and hepatocellular necrosis due to clove oil
Blood Coagulation & Fibrinolysis, 1992We describe the case of a 2-year-old child who suffered from disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and hepatocellular necrosis, following ingestion of clove oil. The patient was treated with heparin and fresh frozen plasma, and, following specific haemostasis assays, with appropriate coagulation factor and inhibitor concentrates.

Spontaneous complete necrosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.
The American journal of gastroenterology, 1996We report a 69-yr-old female with a liver mass which, when surgically resected, was believed to be the spontaneous complete necrosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. The preoperative level of alpha-fetoprotein was high at 1050 ng/ml, and the mass was grossly an encapsulated nodular lesion with septa. Histologically, no viable tumor cells were demonstrated.

Morphologic features of hepatocellular necrosis in human disease
1975Necrosis of the hepatocytes, as a rule associated with disappearance of cells or their breakdown products, is usually accompanied by an inflammatory reaction composed of macrophages, lymphocytes and occasionally, neutrophilic and eosinophilic granulocytes; particularly with single cell necrosis this is histologically more conspicuous than the loss of ...
