Hepatovirus translation requires PDGFA-associated protein 1, an eIF4E-binding protein regulating endoplasmic reticulum stress responses. [PDF]
The overexpression and misfolding of viral proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) may cause cellular stress, thereby inducing a cytoprotective, proteostatic host response involving phosphorylation of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit alpha (eIF2α).

A novel hepatovirus identified in wild woodchuck Marmota himalayana [PDF]
AbstractHepatitis A virus (HAV) is a hepatotropic picornavirus that causes acute liver disease worldwide. Here, we report on the identification of a novel hepatovirus tentatively named Marmota Himalayana hepatovirus (MHHAV) in wild woodchucks (Marmota Himalayana) in China.

Hepatovirus 3ABC proteases and evolution of mitochondrial antiviral signaling protein (MAVS) [PDF]
BACKGROUND & AIMS: Unlike other hepatitis viruses that have infected primates for millions of years, hepatitis A virus (HAV) likely entered human populations only 10-12 thousand years ago after jumping from a rodent host. The phylogeny of modern hepatoviruses that infect rodents and bats suggest that multiple similar host shifts have occurred in ...

Genome Sequence of Genotype 1A Hepatovirus A Isolated from Plasma from a Haitian Child
Genotype 1A hepatovirus A was identified by quantitative reverse transcription-PCR and isolated from plasma from a Haitian child with acute undifferentiated febrile illness and malaise. The strain was most closely related to Brazilian strains, consistent with recognized patterns of virus movement in the Caribbean region.

Hepatitis A outbreak in a refugee shelter in Kiel, northern Germany
Abstract In the spring of 2023, three Ukrainian war refugees from a municipal community shelter and a volunteer caregiver at an affiliated daycare center in Kiel, Germany, were diagnosed with infectious jaundice attributable to a single hepatitis A virus (HAV) subgenotype IA strain. Similar HAV sequences have been observed in Germany and other European

RNA Virus Diversity in Birds and Small Mammals From Qinghai–Tibet Plateau of China
Most emerging and re-emerging viruses causing infectious diseases in humans and domestic animals have originated from wildlife. However, current knowledge of the spectrum of RNA viruses in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China is still limited.
