Intraspecific chromosome analysis in Rhamdia quelen (Siluriformes, Heptapteridae)
2010We studied the chromosomes of Rhamdia quelen. All specimens presented 2n = 58 and 36m+16sm+6st and FN = 116 and showed metacentric B chromosomes of medium size. The specimens from Água dos Patos river, Água das Pedras river and fish farm station showed a secondary constriction in the short arm of pair 28 (st), coincident with the NOR, while in the ...

SummaryThe developmental stages for the embryonic and larval periods of the silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) kept at different temperatures (21, 24, 27 and 30°C) are described. Fish were analysed under light and scanning electron microscopy. For embryonic development, we described 25 stages, which were grouped into seven periods named zygote, cleavage ...

The present study evaluated the effect of waterborne Cd in eggs and larvae of silver catfish, Rhamdia quelen, at two alkalinity levels (63 and 92 mg . L(-1) CaCO(3)): 0.5 (control), 4.5, 8, and 18 microg . L(-1) Cd. The fertilization rate was similar in all treatments, but the number of eggs with irregular surface was significantly higher in those ...
