18β‐Glycyrrhetinic Acid and a Nano‐Liposomal Formulation Alleviate Depression‐Like Behaviors via the Microglial mTOR‐Autophagy‐NLRP3 Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using a novel zebrafish‐based inflammatory screening strategy, we screened and identified 18β‐glycyrrhetinic acid (18β‐GA) as a promising anti‐inflammatory candidate. We uncover a microglial mTOR–autophagy–NLRP3 axis that constitutes the mechanistic core of 18β‐GA–mediated neuroprotection.

Interactions between Herbal Medicinal Products and Conventional Drugs [PDF]

open access: yesKemija u Industriji, 2011
Herbal medicines are traditionally considered natural and therefore safe products, but their increased consumption also increases the potential risk of interactions with conventional medicines and adverse reactions.

Is there a potential of misuse for Magnolia officinalis compounds/metabolites? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
© 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.Objective: Magnolia bark contains magnolol, metabolized to tetrahydromagnolol and honokiol, with both GABA-ergic/cannabimimetic activities, hence of possible attraction to vulnerable individuals/recreational misusers ...

The role of biotransformation processes in mediating interactions between psychotropic drugs and natural products [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Many patients are not aware that natural products such as fruit juices or plant infusions can cause significant interactions with several drugs, some of which can be dangerous, especially when the medical treatment is for neurological or psychiatric ...

NIR‐II Imaging‐Guided Photothermal Activation of a TRPV4‐Targeted Nanoplatform Delivering Cycloastragenol to Promote Microglia Reprogramming and α‐Synuclein Clearance in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current therapies for Parkinson's disease (PD) fail to concurrently address α‐synuclein (α‐syn) aggregation and microglia‐mediated neuroinflammation. Herein, we engineer a near‐infrared‐II (NIR‐II) phototheranostic nanoplatform, CAG/FD1080@MM‐aTRPV4, for synergistic regulation of microglial function and real‐time monitoring of PD pathology. We

Enhanced Photocatalytic Wastewater Purification and Bacterial Elimination via Copper Ion Irradiation‐Induced Modification of BiOCl

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a copper ion irradiation method to achieve the modification function of BiOCl. By using high‐energy ion beams to introduce impurity ions inside the material, the intrinsic electric field of BiOCl is optimized, promoting the separation of photogenerated carriers and enhancing the photocatalytic activity.

Toward Predictable Nanomedicine: Current Forecasting Frameworks for Nanoparticle–Biology Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Predictive models successfully screen nanoparticles for toxicity and cellular uptake. Yet, complex biological dynamics and sparse, nonstandardized data limit their accuracy. The field urgently needs integrated artificial intelligence/machine learning, systems biology, and open‐access data protocols to bridge the gap between materials science and safe ...

Pathogenic microorganisms of medicinal herbal drugs [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Biological Sciences, 2012
All the parts of plants (root, leaf, flower) naturally have a high level of microorganisms, bacteria and fungi, especially molds. Microbial contamination could be a result of inappropriate harvesting, cleaning of the raw plant material, unhygienic ...

Cytochrome P450 enzyme mediated herbal drug interactions (Part 1) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
It is well recognized that herbal supplements or herbal medicines are now commonly used. As many patients taking prescription medications are concomitantly using herbal supplements, there is considerable risk for adverse herbal drug interactions.
