Engineering herbicide resistance in plants

Trends in Genetics, 1988
In modern agriculture, herbicides are commonly applied for weed control, and they comprise an important part of the agrochemical business. Modifying plants to become resistant to broad spectrum herbicides would allow a selective use of these chemicals for crop protection.

Adopting epidemiological approaches for herbicide resistance monitoring and management

, 2020
The widespread use and increasing reliance on herbicides for weed control has resulted in a global epidemic of evolved herbicide resistance in weed populations.

Ethical reflections on herbicide‐resistant crops

Pest Management Science, 2004
AbstractThe introduction of genetically modified (GM) crops has caused a fierce public debate in Europe. Much of the controversy centres on possible risks to the environment. A specific problem here is that risk perception of the scientific experts differs from that of the public.

Herbicide-Resistant Weeds

2014
The International Survey of Herbicide-Resistant Weeds (www.weedscience.org) reports 388 unique cases (species x site of action) of herbicide-resistant weeds globally, with 210 species. Weeds have evolved resistance to 21 of the 25 known herbicide sites of action and to 152 different herbicides.

Herbicide Resistance Screening Assay

2009
Herbicide resistance screening is a method that can be used not only to determine presence of the enzyme, phosphinothricin acetyltransferase, encoded by either the Bar or the Pat gene in transgenic maize, but also to assess the inheritance ratio of those genes in a segregating population.

The Genetic Inheritance of Herbicide Resistance in Weeds

Critical reviews in plant sciences, 2019
The number of herbicide-resistant weeds is increasing globally. A successful management practice requires an understanding of how resistance traits are inherited.

Herbicide Resistance in China: A Quantitative Review

Weed science, 2019
The widespread, rapid evolution of herbicide-resistant weeds is a serious and escalating agronomic problem worldwide. During China's economic boom, the country became one of the most important herbicide producers and consumers in the world, and herbicide

Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC): Herbicide Classification, Resistance Evolution, Survey, and Resistance Mitigation Activities

Modern Crop Protection Compounds, 2019
Crop losses and quality depreciation, due to harmful organisms, especially weeds, can be substantial and can be significantly reduced or even prevented by crop protection measures [1].

A quarter of a century of monitoring herbicide resistance in Lolium rigidum in Australia

Crop and Pasture Science, 2019
Charles Sturt University has operated a commercial herbicide resistance testing service since 1991, following a random survey of the South West Slopes region of New South Wales that identified significant incidence of herbicide resistance in annual ...
