Hermetia illucens as a new and promising species for use in entomoremediation

Science of The Total Environment, 2018
This study investigated the use of Hermetia illucens (black soldier fly - BSF) larvae as a new species for use in entomoremediation. The H. illucens larvae effectively reduced the dry mass of polluted corn leaves by an average of 49% after 36days for both Cd and Zn (50mg·kg-1), which is a better result than that, which can be obtained by one of the ...

Paenalcaligenes hermetiae sp. nov., isolated from the larval gut of Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), and emended description of the genus Paenalcaligenes

International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2013
A novel Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile and short rod-shaped bacterium, strain KBL009T, was isolated from the larval gut of Hermetia illucens. Strain KBL009T grew optimally at 37 °C, at pH 6.0 and with 1–2 % (w/v) NaCl. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain KBL009T showed 97.6 % similarity to that of

Description of the puparium of Hermetia pulchra (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) from Brazil

Zootaxa, 2016
The puparium of Hermetia pulchra is described, based on a single specimen reared in laboratory under controlled conditions until the emergence of an adult female. The puparium of H. pulchra was compared with puparium of H. illucens and some differential features were indicated.
