Herpes Genitalis and Aseptic Meningitis

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) and, less often (about 15%), type 1 (HSV-1). Epidemiological studies indicate that HSV-1 is found predominantly in lesions of the lips, face and other nongenital sites, whereas HSV-2 is almost found always in the ano-genital area.
