Identification and Characterization of an In Silico Designed Membrane‐Active Peptide with Antiviral Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 16, 18 March 2026.
An evolutionary molecular dynamics platform is used to design P1.6, a membrane‐active peptide that senses lipid packing defects in viral envelopes. P1.6 adopts a stabilized α‐helical structure upon membrane contact, disrupts virus‐like liposomes, and damages HIV‐1 particles.

EGR Proteins Mediate Interferon‐Independent Anti‐HSV‐1 Responses Through Viral and Host Targets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
Early antiviral responses are typically mediated by interferons. However, during HSV‐1 infection, host early growth response (Egr) genes, which are not interferon‐stimulated genes, are quickly induced by viral protein ICP0. EGR proteins, in turn, suppress viral lytic infection by activating viral latency‐associated (LAT) and host immune regulatory ...

Electric Method for the Desulfation of Polysaccharides From Red Microalgae (Porphyridium cruentum) Cultures

open access: yesBiopolymers, Volume 117, Issue 2, March 2026.
A non‐destructive method for depleting sulfates from the red microalgae Porphyridium cruentum by directly exposing the growth medium to a moderate electric field has been developed. The reported electric‐field separation method is a simple, straightforward, and non‐toxic means for the direct recovery of desulfated polysaccharides from P.

Infectious Mononucleosis: An Uncommon Presentation of a Common Disease—a Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2026.
Atypical infectious mononucleosis without pharyngitis may mimic malignancy; early EBV testing enables accurate diagnosis and prevents unnecessary invasive investigations. ABSTRACT Infectious mononucleosis (IM), caused by the Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), typically presents with fever, pharyngitis, and lymphadenopathy.
