The complete DNA sequence of the mildly virulent Gallid herpesvirus type 2 strain CU-2 was determined and consists of 176,922 bp with an overall gene organization typical of class E herpesviruses. Phylogenetically, this strain partitions in its own branch between the virulent strains RB-1B, Md11, and Md5, and the vaccine strain CVI988.

Marek's disease (MD) is a neoplastic and neurodegenerative disease of chickens, which is caused by the Gallid herpesvirus type 2 (GaHV-2). Although vaccination has been used widely in China, MD still occurs frequently. Some molecular epidemiologic studies have shown that Chinese GaHV-2 isolates seem to constitute a separate clade from strains isolated ...

Clones representing 90% of the genome of Gallid herpesvirus 1 (infectious laryngotracheitis virus; ILTV) were obtained and used in hybridization experiments to construct EcoRI, KpnI amd SmaI physical maps. The genome was 155 kilobase pairs (kbp) and comprised of a long unique sequence (120 kbp) and a short unique sequence (17 kbp) bounded by repeat ...

Herpesvirus replication within host cells results in concatemeric genomic DNA, which is cleaved into unit-length genomes and packaged into the capsid by a complex of proteins. The sites of cleavage have been identified for many herpesviruses, and conserved signaling sequences involved in cleavage and packaging have been characterized.

Immunity against Marek's disease (MD), caused by Gallid herpesvirus 2 (GaHV-2), in chickens is mediated by both innate and adaptive responses. The present study evaluated the effects of GaHV-2 infection on distribution and frequency of γδ T cells in tissues, as well as their expression of cytokines. We found that the infected chickens had significantly

Comparative study on biological material for molecular diagnosis of Gallid herpesvirus 2
Indian Journal of Animal Research, 2018The present study was intended to investigate the sensitivity of different tissues of tumorous and non-tumorous birds to the polymerize chain reaction-baseddiagnosis of Marek’s disease. Tissue samples were collected from spleen, sciatic nerve, feather follicles and tumour parts (if any)of chickens during the routine necropsy examination.

Gallid herpesvirus 2 (GaHV-2) is the alphaherpesvirus responsible for Marek's disease (MD), a T-cell lymphoma of chickens. The virulence of the GaHV-2 field strain is steadily increasing, but MD is still controlled by the CVI988/Rispens vaccine. We tried to determine distinguishing traits of the CVI988/Rispens vaccine by focusing on the 5' end region ...

The nucleotide sequence of 10.6 kilobase pairs (kbp) at the leftterminus of infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV) SA-2 vaccine strain was determined. Several features were elucidated, including, 102 base pair (bp) inverted repeats separated by 750 bp of unique sequence which contains an NF-1 binding site indicating that the terminal may be a site ...

Marek's disease (MD) is the leading cause of losses in chicken production in the world. Over the past 40 years significant progress has been made in the control of MD through the use of vaccines which reduce or delay tumor formation in vaccinated flocks. However, these vaccines fail to induce an immune response that protects against infection and virus
