Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma: Diagnosis and treatment

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
Vascular endothelial growth factor‐C (VEGF‐C)/vascular endothelial growth factor receptor‐3 (VEGFR‐3) and angiopoietin‐2 (Ang‐2)/tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin‐like and EGF‐like domain 2 (TIE2) signaling pathways play an important role in lymphangiogenesis.

Atomic structures and deletion mutant reveal different capsid-binding patterns and functional significance of tegument protein pp150 in murine and human cytomegaloviruses with implications for therapeutic development. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection causes birth defects and life-threatening complications in immunosuppressed patients. Lack of vaccine and need for more effective drugs have driven widespread ongoing therapeutic development efforts against human CMV (HCMV)

Relationships Between European Wildcats and Domestic Cats in an Area of Sympatry: Exploring Key Conservation Questions on Hybridization and Disease Transmission

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

A Genomic Approach to Unravel Host-Pathogen Interaction in Chelonians: The Example of Testudinid Herpesvirus 3. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
We report the first de novo sequence assembly and analysis of the genome of Testudinid herpesvirus 3 (TeHV3), one of the most pathogenic chelonian herpesviruses.

Male infertility and viral infection: Interference role of the human herpesvirus types (3 – 6) with disturbances effects of some cytokines hypersecretion and seminal oxidative defense system in the infertility etiopathogenesis of some idiopathic infertile Iraqi patients

open access: yesBiomedical & Pharmacology Journal, 2019
To study the role of potential relationship of chronic human herpes virus types (3 – 6) infection and their correlation with the up-regulation of some cytokines (IL-2, IL-10 and IFN gamma) and effect of (8-OHdG) and (TAOC) levels onto male infertility.

Microglial reactivity and nodule formation are associated with Synaptodendritic damage in the brains of people with HIV‐1

open access: yesBrain Pathology, EarlyView.
Despite effective ART, neurocognitive impairment persists in people with HIV. Brains from PWH present exacerbated microgliosis and formation of microglial nodules that are actively engaged in neuronal phagocytosis, resulting in neuronal injury and dendritic loss.

Nonprofessional Phagocytosis Can Facilitate Herpesvirus Entry into Ocular Cells

open access: yesClinical and Developmental Immunology, 2012
Phagocytosis is a major mechanism by which the mediators of innate immunity thwart microbial infections. Here we demonstrate that human herpesviruses may have evolved a common mechanism to exploit a phagocytosis-like entrapment to gain entry into ocular ...

Expression of Glycoprotein B (gB) Correlates With Poor Prognosis in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
The extent of EBV lytic replication in NPC has not been fully clarified. Our study demonstrated EBV replication and release in NPC and identified a significant association between expression of the late lytic protein gB and poor prognosis. These findings suggest that late lytic gene products may contribute to tumor progression and that gB represents a ...

HERPESVIRUS INFECTIONS IN CHILDREN WITH RECURRENT RESPIRATORY DISEASES

open access: yesДетские инфекции (Москва), 2018
The article presents the role of herpesviral infections caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV) and human herpesvirus type 6 (HHV-6) in 36 children with recurrent respiratory tract diseases at the age
