Case 28: Pressurized Intravenous Hetastarch

2013
A 2-year-old child is taken to the operating room for an emergency laparotomy. Four hours earlier, the child had a kidney tumor removed, uneventfully, under general anesthesia. On examination, the child is pale, cold, and clammy, with a heart rate of 150 beats per minute (bpm) and a systolic blood pressure (BP) of 60 mmHg.
