Fine Control of the Electric Field Distribution in the Heterostructure Multiplication Region of AlGaN Avalanche Photodiodes

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2017
To enhance avalanche ionization, we designed a new separate absorption and multiplication AlGaN solar-blind avalanche photodiode (APD) by replacing the conventional AlGaN homogeneous multiplication region with a high/low Al content AlGaN ...

Research on the initial beam correlation scheme for UAV-assisted 5G HetNet

open access: yesDianzi Jishu Yingyong, 2020
The ground 5G base station provides low-frequency control signals to complete the control of the initial beam access. The aerial unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) base station provides data services for the ground users.

Gaining relevance from the random: Interpreting observed spatial heterogeneity

open access: yesSpatial and Spatio-temporal Epidemiology, 2018
In Bayesian disease mapping, spatial random effects are used to account for confounding in the data so that reasonable estimates for the fixed effects can be obtained. Typically, the spatial random effects are mapped and qualitative comments are made related to an increase or decrease in risk for certain areas.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Osteomalacia in a Case of Adult-Onset Bartter Syndrome

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Case Reports in Internal Medicine, 2018
Bartter syndrome is a rare heterogeneous disease characterised by a deficiency in sodium and chloride absorption. Gain-of-function mutations in the CASR gene have been described in some patients with Bartter syndrome associated with hypocalcaemia and ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Heterogeneous multinational firms and productivity gains from falling FDI barriers [PDF]

open access: yesReview of World Economics, 2013
This paper quantitatively assesses the impact of falling foreign direct investment (FDI) barriers on individual firms and its implications for intra-industry reallocation and aggregate productivity. We calibrate the firm-heterogeneity model of Eaton et al.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
