Microstructure Fingerprinting for Heterogeneously Oriented Tissue Microenvironments

2023
Most diffusion biophysical models capture basic properties of tissue microstructure, such as diffusivity and anisotropy. More realistic models that relate the diffusion-weighted signal to cell size and membrane permeability often require simplifying assumptions such as short gradient pulse and Gaussian phase distribution, leading to tissue features ...

Microstructured Reactors for Heterogeneous Catalytic Processes.

ChemInform, 2004
Microstructured reactors are mainly characterized by their very high surface to volume ratio compared to traditional chemical reactors. Multichannel microreactors having channel diameters in the order of ten to several hundred micrometers have specific surface areas up to 50’000 m2/m3.

Response Statistics for Random Heterogeneous Microstructures

SIAM/ASA Journal on Uncertainty Quantification, 2014
A practical method is developed for calculating statistics of material responses at small scale and functionals of these responses. The method is applied to characterize probabilistically potentials in specimens with conductivities that fluctuate randomly in space.

In‐service sensitization of a microstructurally heterogeneous AA5083 alloy

Materials and Corrosion, 2015
It was revealed that an AA5083 alloy had been severely sensitized after 40 years in service at ground atmosphere temperature. The degree of sensitization of the various regions through the alloy plate thickness is different, which is associated with the non‐uniform distribution of Mg through the plate thickness.

Modeling Heterogeneous Media With Microstructures of Different Scales

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 2006
The objective of this paper is to extend the framework of the continuum theory so that it can capture the properties that are embedded in the microstructure or nanostructure and still keep its simplicity and efficiency. The model thus developed is capable of accounting for local deformation of microstructures in solids especially their micro- (local ...

Heterogeneous fibre microstructures and their influence on failure

Journal of Microscopy, 1993
SUMMARYA detailed microscopic, experimental and micromechanical evaluation of fibre damage initiation in a unidirectional aluminium matrix‐silicon carbide fibre (SCS‐8TM) composite has been performed for a monotonic load sequence. The salient fibre features include a 33‐μm‐diameter monofilament turbostratic carbon (C) core, a ∼ 1·5‐μm pyrolytic C layer,

Strength of alloys with heterogeneous microstructures

Czechoslovak Journal of Physics, 1985
The strengthening mechanisms of alloys composed of more than one phase are discussed in a systematic manner. A definition is proposed for certain types of microstructures. Plastic strain of fine dispersion structures (precipitation-hardened alloys) can vary between homogeneous and extremely localized in a few slip bands.

Microstructural heterogeneity and dynamic shear localization

Applied Physics Letters, 2012
Dynamic shear localization attracted interest as both experimental and theoretical evidence suggested that its origins are not only due, as believed, to thermal softening, but are most likely related to microstructural evolutions, the latter being driven by a critical value of the stored strain energy.

Microstructure of Heterogeneous Mixtures for Gasless Combustion

Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves, 2004
The microstructure of a mixture for gasless combustion and its compactability were studied. The electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and burning rate of the mixture were measured, and metallographical studies were performed. It was found that particle shape and the ability of the particles to form a continuous skeleton play a determining role

Design of Heterogeneous Microstructures by Recrystallization

1977
The theory for the control of grain size and shape of heterogeneous alloys by thermal and mechanical treatment is described. The amount, size, and distribution of particles, coherency with the matrix phase, and interaction with dislocations determine the defect structure of the alloy.
