Families Opisthorchiidae and Heterophyidae: Are they distinct?
Parasitology International, 2012Superfamily Opisthorchioidea Looss, 1899 consists of three well-known families, Opisthorchiidae, Heterophyidae, and Cryptogonimidae, with basic similarities in morphology and life-cycles. Many species in the first two of these families are human pathogens, such as Opisthorchis viverrini, O. felineus, Clonorchis sinensis, Haplorchis spp. and Metagonimus

Use of rDNA polymorphism for identification of Heterophyidae infecting freshwater fishes [PDF]
Infections by trematodes are among the most common fish-borne zoonoses. Metacercariae of the Family Heterophyidae in marine and freshwater fishes are nonfastidious in their choice of definitive hosts, and therefore, cause infections in human and domestic animals.

HaplorchoidesChen, 1949 (Haplorchinae: Heterophyidae) in freshwater fishes
Journal of Helminthology, 1976AbstractTwo metacercariae ofHaplorchoides, recorded in the fingerlings of over a dozen species of freshwater fishes, are described and illustrated. Oyigerous flukes were recovered from older specimens of two species of fishes procured from the same locality.
