Natural Concurrent Infections with Black Spot Disease and Multiple Bacteriosis in Farmed Nile Tilapia in Central Kenya

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is the most cultured and available fish for Kenyan consumers, and therefore, any tilapine disease deprives them the valuable source of protein. Nile tilapia farm was diagnosed with severe concurrent black spot disease and multiple bacteriosis using gross lesions and parasitological, histopathology, and standard ...

Surface ultrastructure of Heterophyes nocens (Trematoda: Heterophyidae)

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Parasitology, 1992
The surface ultrastructure of Heterophyes nocens (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) was studied by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The adult worms were recovered from experimentally infected cats and from a naturally infected patient. They were leaf-like, ventrally concave, and ovoid or pyriform in shape.

Current Knowledge of Small Flukes (Digenea: Heterophyidae) from South America. [PDF]

open access: yesKorean J Parasitol, 2020
Fish-borne heterophyid trematodes are known to have a zoonotic potential, since at least 30 species are able to infect humans worldwide, with a global infection of around 7 million people. In this paper, a ‘state-of-the-art’ review of the South American heterophyid species is provided, including classical and molecular taxonomy, parasite ecology, host ...

Can the studies at a spatial scale of 100s meters detect the spatiotemporal fluctuations of a parasite assemblage? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The importance of small-scale heterogeneity in local factors which overrides that of larger-scales factors, suggest that local factors play a major role in determining the richness and prevalence of larval digeneans in intertidal gastropods.
