Hexagonal-Grid-Layout Image Segmentation Using Shock Filters: Computational Complexity Case Study for Microarray Image Analysis Related to Machine Learning Approaches

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Hexagonal grid layouts are advantageous in microarray technology; however, hexagonal grids appear in many fields, especially given the rise of new nanostructures and metamaterials, leading to the need for image analysis on such structures.

Halftoning over a hexagonal grid [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2003
In this contribution, we present an optimal halftoning algorithm that uniformly distributes pixels over a hexagonal grid. This method is based on a slightly modified error-diffusion approach presented at SIGGRAPH 2001. Our algorithm's parameters are optimized using a simplex downhill search method together with a blue noise based cost function .

A web of confocal parabolas in a grid of hexagons

open access: yesBeiträge zur Algebra und Geometrie / Contributions to Algebra and Geometry, 2022
If one erects regular hexagons upon the sides of a triangle $T$, several surprising properties emerge, including: (i) the triangles which flank said hexagons have an isodynamic point common with $T$, (ii) the construction can be extended iteratively, forming an infinite grid of regular hexagons and flank triangles, (iii) a web of confocal parabolas ...

Tree Drawings on the Hexagonal Grid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We consider straight-line drawings of trees on a hexagonal grid. The hexagonal grid is an extension of the common grid with inner nodes of degree six. We restrict the number of directions used for the edges from each node to its children from one to five, and to five patterns: straight, Y, ψ, X, and full.

A Novel Approach for Identifying Urban Built-Up Area Boundaries Using High-Resolution Remote-Sensing Data Based on the Scale Effect

open access: yesISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2018
Identifying urban built-up area boundaries is critical to urban data statistics, size measurement, and spatial control. However, previous methods of extracting urban built-up area boundaries based on low-resolution remote-sensing data are frequently ...

icosa: Global Triangular and Penta-Hexagonal Grids Based on Tessellated Icosahedra

open access: yes, 2021
Employs triangular tessellation to refine icosahedra defined in 3d space. The procedures can be set to provide a grid with a custom resolution. Both the primary triangular and their inverted penta-hexagonal grids are available for implementation ...

HexagDLy—Processing hexagonally sampled data with CNNs in PyTorch

open access: yesSoftwareX, 2019
HexagDLy is a Python-library extending the PyTorch deep learning framework with convolution and pooling operations on hexagonal grids. It aims to ease the access to convolutional neural networks for applications that rely on hexagonally sampled data as ...

On L′ (2, 1)–Edge Coloring Number of Regular Grids

open access: yesAnalele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Ovidius Constanta: Seria Matematica, 2019
In this paper, we study multi-level distance edge labeling for infinite rectangular, hexagonal and triangular grids. We label the edges with non-negative integers.
