Honeycomb Geometry: Rigid Motions on the Hexagonal Grid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Euclidean rotations in $\mathbb{R}^2$ are bijective and isometric maps, but they lose generally these properties when digitized in discrete spaces. In particular, the topological and geometrical defects of digitized rigid motions on the square grid have been studied. In this context, the main problem is related to the incompatibility between the square

Mixed‐Metal Promotion in a Manganese‐Molybdenum Oxynitride as Catalyst to Integrate C─C and C─N Coupling Reactions for the Direct Synthesis of Acetonitrile from Syngas and Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.

Kelvin Probe Force Microscopy in Bionanotechnology: Current Advances and Future Perspectives

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) enables the nanoscale mapping of electrostatic surface potentials. While widely applied in materials science, its use in biological systems remains emerging. This review presents recent advances in KPFM applied to biological samples and provides a critical perspective on current limitations and future directions for

Verification of multilevel octree grid algorithm of SN transport calculation with the Balakovo-3 VVER-1000 neutron dosimetry benchmark

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2023
Neutron transport calculations are extremely challenging due to the high computational cost of large and complex problems. A multilevel octree grid algorithm (MLTG) of discrete ordinates method was developed to improve the modeling accuracy and ...

icosa: Global Triangular and Penta-Hexagonal Grids Based on Tessellated Icosahedra

open access: yes, 2017
Employs triangular tessellation to refine icosahedra defined in 3d space. The procedures can be set to provide a grid with a custom resolution. Both the primary triangular and their inverted penta-hexagonal grids are available for implementation ...

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

Shape distortion analysis of hexagonal discrete global grid systems based on standard deviation of neighbor distance

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Earth Observations and Geoinformation
Hexagonal Discrete Global Grid Systems (HDGGS) are spatial reference frameworks based on the spatial discretization of the Earth’s surface, dividing it into a network of uniform hexagonal cells.

Resolving the Structural Duality of Graphene Grain Boundaries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cantilever ncAFM resolves the atomic structure of grain boundaries in graphene, revealing coexisting stable and metastable types. Both contain pentagon/heptagon defects, but metastable GBs show irregular geometries. Modeling shows metastable GBs form under compression, exhibiting vertical corrugation, while stable GBs are flat.
