Improving energy absorption capability of the hexagonal honeycomb and re-entrant structures using a combined hierarchical design [PDF]
Hexagonal honeycombs and re-entrant lattices have been widely used in energy-absorption applications. The hexagonal honeycomb structure, known for its positive Poisson’s ratio and high specific stiffness and strength, has long been considered an ...

Numerical simulation of a novel bilayer photonic crystal slab biosensor with hexagonal lattice
A new type of silicon-based bilayer photonic crystal slab biosensor is proposed based on the theoretical investigation of various parameters of two-dimensional photonic crystal slab on the peak wavelength and characteristics of the reflection spectrum ...

On well-rounded sublattices of the hexagonal lattice
We produce an explicit parameterization of well-rounded sublattices of the hexagonal lattice in the plane, splitting them into similarity classes. We use this parameterization to study the number, the greatest minimal norm, and the highest signal-to-noise ratio of well-rounded sublattices of the hexagonal lattice of a fixed index.

Distance Coloring of the Hexagonal Lattice [PDF]
The authors show that the \(d\)-distant chromatic number \(\chi_d(H)\) of the hexagonal lattice \(H\) is (i) \(\chi_d(H)=[\frac 38(d+1)^2]\) for every odd \(d\geq 1\), (ii) \(\frac 38 d^2+\frac 34 d+2\leq\chi_d(H)\leq[\frac 38 (d+\frac 43)^2]\) for every even \(d\geq 8\), where \(\chi_2(H)=4\), \(\chi_4(H)=11\), \(\chi_6(H)=20\).

The hexagonal versus the square lattice [PDF]
Schmutz Schaller’s conjecture regarding the lengths of the hexagonal versus the lengths of the square lattice is shown to be true. The proof makes use of results from (computational) prime number theory. Using an identity due to Selberg, it is shown that, in principle, the conjecture can be resolved without using computational prime number theory.
