Deformation behavior and mechanical properties of periodic topological Ti structures fabricated by superplastic forming/diffusion bonding

open access: yesInternational Journal of Lightweight Materials and Manufacture, 2019
A variety of topological structures, including hollow warren structure (cross warren, diamond warren, triangular warren, four layer warren), 2D lattice structure (hexagonal honeycomb, tetragonal honeycomb), closed-cell foam structure (hexagonal foam ...

The 3-state Potts antiferromagnet on the hexagonal lattice [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1998
We study the 3-state hexagonal-lattice Potts antiferromagnet by a Monte Carlo simulation using the Wang-Swendsen-Kotecky cluster algorithm. We study the staggered susceptibility and the correlation length, and we confirm that this model is disordered at all temperatures T>=0. We also measure the ground-state entropy density.

Mitigating Concentration Polarization in Dry‐Processed Ultra‐Thick Cathodes Using a Low‐Viscosity Electrolyte With Soft Li+ Solvation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A low‐viscosity, soft‐solvating methyl ethanoate (ME)‐based electrolyte facilitates electrolyte infiltration into dense dry‐processed ultra‐thick NCM622 cathodes while reducing Li+ desolvation barriers at Li‐metal anodes. Balanced cathode‐scale ion transport and anode‐side interfacial kinetics mitigate concentration polarization and interfacial ...

Enhancement of Yellow Light Extraction Efficiency of Y 3Al 5O 12:Ce 3+ Ceramic Converters Using a 2-D TiO 2 Hexagonal-Lattice Nanocylinder Photonic Crystal Layer

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2016
The effects of 2-D hexagonal-lattice TiO 2 photonic crystal layers on the directional light extraction efficiency of low-scattering (Y 1-xCe x) 3Al 5O 12 (YAG:Ce 3+) ceramic converters have been investigated.

Hexagonal and Square Flux Line Lattices in CeCoIn5

open access: yesPhysical review letters, 2002
Using small-angle neutron scattering, we have imaged the magnetic flux line lattice (FLL) in the d-wave heavy-fermion superconductor CeCoIn5. At low fields we find a hexagonal FLL. Around 0.6 T this undergoes what is very likely a first-order transition to square symmetry, with the nearest neighbors oriented along the gap node directions.

Spin Dynamics in the van der Waals Ferromagnet CrTe2 Engineered by Niobium Doping

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spin‐dynamic magnetic properties of van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnet 1T‐CrTe2 are tuned via niobium (Nb) as Cr1‐xNbxTe2 (x = 0–0.2). Nb doping enables wide‐band tuning of the resonance frequency from 40 GHz down to the few‐GHz regime, accompanied by a moderate increase in the Gilbert damping from ∼0.066 to ∼0.14.

Network Topology Governs Photocatalytic Water Splitting in Organic Two‐Dimensional Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Network topology in organic two‐dimensional crystals (O2DCs) dictates the photocatalytic water splitting performance. Kagome‐lattice O2DCs exhibit strong electron‐hole mass asymmetry, spatially separated carriers, and longer recombination lifetimes, exceeding rhombic isomers.

Lattice distortions and metal-insulator transition in hexagonal FeS

open access: yesJPhys Materials
Using total x-ray scattering and density functional theory calculations based on experimental data, we study the metal-insulator transition (MIT) in the strongly correlated system FeS with hexagonal symmetry.

Confinement‐Engineered Thermally Programmed Ion‐Gating Separator for Decoupling Thermal–Electrochemical Feedback in High‐Energy Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new phase‐change material encapsulated membrane offers more thermal resilience stability and safety than the conventional separators for batteries. ABSTRACT Thermal runaway in lithium‐ion batteries arises from the intrinsic coupling between heat generation and ion transport, yet conventional shutdown separators primarily rely on passive pore collapse
