Mechanical Properties of Semi-Regular Lattices

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2022
The mechanical properties of seven semi-regular lattices were derived analytically for in-plane uniaxial compression and shear. These analytical expressions were then validated using Finite Element simulations.

Modeling Dislocation Cutting of γ′ Precipitates in Ni‐Base Superalloys: Linking Atomistic and Dislocation Dynamics Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocation cutting of γ′ precipitates in Ni‐based superalloys is investigated by linking atomistic simulations with discrete dislocation dynamics. The critical cutting stress is shown to be governed by the antiphase boundary energy, while line tension effects promote edge‐preferred cutting.

Effect of nanoconfinement and pore geometry on point of zero charge in synthesized mesoporous siliceous materials

open access: yesJCIS Open, 2022
Fluid-rock interactions may differ in mesopores (2–50 nm diameter) compared to macropores (>50 nm diameter). This study evaluates the influence of nano-confinement and pore geometry on point of zero charge (PZC) and hence surface charge and adsorption.

Advanced Electron Microscopy and Microcomputed Tomography Analysis of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Base Superalloys After Short‐Term Multiaxial Creep

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the anisotropic behavior of circular notched tensile specimens of Ni‐base superalloy single crystals during high‐temperature tensile creep along [001], [110], and [111]. Correlative scale‐bridging imaging of specimens reveals early rupture along [110] because 1) plastic deformation proceeds faster at notch center; 2) more (brittle ...

New AI‐Assisted Approach for Expanding the Solution Space: Application to Lattice Structure Design

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces an innovative framework for designing structured materials by ex panding the design space through reparameterization of qualitative variables into continuous structural descriptors. Combined with machine‐learning‐based prediction and multi‐objective optimization, the approach enables the discovery of novel lattice architectures ...

A new pick-type theorem on the hexagonal lattice

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1988
Let L be the vertex set of the plane tiling by regular hexagons of a unit area. The paper discusses a ``Pick-type theorem'' for hexagonal lattice polygons P, that is, polygons whose vertices belong to L. It is proved that for certain kinds of hexagonal lattice polygons P the area A(P) of P is given by \(A(P)=b/4+i/2+c/12-1,\) where b is the number of ...

Giant Magnetic Coercivity Driven by Spin‐Bag Ferromagnetism in Epitaxial Sr3YCo4O10+δ Films with Engineered 2D Oxygen Vacancy Ordering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A giant magnetic coercivity and a vertical shift of hysteresis loops are demonstrated in Sr3YCo4O10+δ epitaxial films. The hard magnetic behavior originates from ferromagnetic spin bags stabilized within a long‐range ordered oxygen‐vacancy structure.

Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces
