Rigid Fluorescent Indacenetetraone‐Based Semiconducting Polymers via Knoevenagel Condensation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
New donor–acceptor polymers prepared by Knoevenagel condensation of indacenedithiophene‐ and indacenedifuran‐based aldehydes reveal an exceptionally rigid backbone, which is manifested in the remarkably narrow absorption and emission bands in red to near‐infrared region.

The effect of catalyst precursors and conditions of preparing Pt and Pd-Pt catalysts on their activity in the oxidation of hexane

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2017
The effectiveness of under-air n-hexane oxidation over monolithic catalysts made of heat-resistant foil, containing Pt, Pd or Pt-Pd, was compared. Pt and Pd precursors, either containing chlorine or devoid of chlorine, were used to prepare the catalysts.

On the Behavior of Hexane on Graphite at Near-Monolayer Densities [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 73, 085422 (2006), 2005
We present the results of molecular dynamics (MD) studies of hexane physisorbed onto graphite for eight coverages in the range $0.875 \le \rho \le 1.05$ (in units of monolayers). At low temperatures the adsorbate molecules form a uniaxially incommensurate herringbone (UI-HB) solid.

Biodegradable, Humidity‐Insensitive Mask‐Integrated E‐Nose for Sustainable and Non‐Invasive Continuous Breath Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a paper‐based biodegradable, humidity‐insensitive e‐nose for real‐time breath analysis, addressing challenges in existing technologies such as humidity interference, high costs, and environmental impact. Featuring hydrophobic polymer coatings, these sensors reliably detect VOCs even in high‐moisture environments.

Calorimetric study of the nematic to smectic-A phase transition in octylcyanobiphenyl-hexane binary mixtures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The continuous nematic to smectic-A (N-SmA) phase transition has been studied by high-resolution ac-calorimetry in binary mixtures of the liquid crystal octylcyanobiphenyl(8CB) and a non-mesogenic, low-molecular weight, solvent n-hexane(hex) as a function of temperature and solvent concentration.

Rotating Liquid Marble Microreactors for Enhanced Enzymatic Reactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dynamic magnetic liquid marbles (LMs), stabilized by hydrophobic magnetic proteinaceous colloidosomes, function as effective microreactors for enzymatic processes. Precise magnetic manipulation allows for the rotation of these LMs, enhancing the efficiency of the enzymatic cascade reaction both at the air/water interface and within biphasic enzyme ...

Microstructure Formation in Freezing Nanosuspension Droplets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The structural evolution of suspensions upon freezing is studied with optical microscopy in a suspended droplet configuration. Droplets have millimeter size and consist in an aqueous mixture of silica particles while the surroundings phase is hexane. Freeze-thaw cycles are applied to this system and a two-step freezing mechanism evidenced.

A Universal Biomimetic Approach for Making Artificial Antigen‐Presenting Cells for T Cell Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows a biomimetic silica microcapsule (SMC) fabrication method under mild conditions for making artificial antigen‐presenting cells (aAPCs). Inspired by marine biomineralization, peptide‐mediated biosilicification enables silica shell formation on emulsion templates. The resulting SMCs possess a core–shell structure, controlled fluorescence
